Show : IV 4 A Silas Munson Silas Munson Celebrates 94th Silas Munson, Tropic, Will celebrate his 94th birthday on Dec. 19 with family members. He married Sarah Irene Johnson Aug. 28, 1928 and they were married 68 years. She died Feb. 28, 1997. They lived in Tropic before moving to Los Angeles, Calif., in the late 1920's Where Silas worked for the Ford Motor Company. Com-pany. After WWII started, he worked in shipyards in Long Beach, Calif. Silas moved his family back to Tropic in 1.947 to. go into the dairy business. He also bought and sold cattle in Heward Canyon. Can-yon. He was still milking daily in his late seventies. Silas still brings a wheelbarrow-load of firewood fire-wood into the house each winter day. For more than 20 years, he played drums in "Jimmy's Orchestra", named for his brother James Munson who played the saxophone. Elva Clarke played the piano and George Thompson, trumpet. Silas is known and respected for his clear memory of small details of the past. The Munson's have two sons and a daughter, Donald (Dixie) Munson, Kearns; and Alan Munson Mun-son and Verlyn Munson of Tropic. They have 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. " |
