Show 7th And 8th Grade Football Team Enjoys Great First Year By Grant Warnick Success can be measured in many different ways. Most often we, as parents, coaches and spectators look at grades and scores as a way to judge how well or successful the team or player performed. However, the true measure of a young man or woman is not the final score of the game nor individual statistics. sta-tistics. Courage and commitment, commit-ment, sacrifice and putting aside self-interest reflect strong character char-acter and teamwork. The game of football permits an opportunity for young athletes ath-letes to learn concepts that go beyond winning. No other sport challenges a youngster more to battle individually their opponent oppo-nent yet function within a team framework. This experience brings forth a desire to play the game with intensity and determination deter-mination yet while during the battle each player is expected to show sportsmanship and fair Play-There Play-There are some who see football foot-ball as brutal, too aggressive and harmful. Others disagree and see the potential to build upon the basic aspects of living a life which centers around self-discipline, commitment, sacrifice, courage, determination and not quitting when the going gets tough. The roster below reflects 16 winners young athletes, 7th and 8th graders, who continued to work hard each day and make personal sacrifices, overcoming both physical and emotional challenges. . Each week they made steady progress and honed their skills, grew closer together as friends and teammates. We as a community have much to be proud of and hopefully hope-fully these football players will have the opportunity to continue to play the game, thus continue down the road leading them to citizenship, integrity and honor. Craig Armstrong 5'8", 72 pounds, back; Josh Bateman 5' 11", 130 pounds, Back; Taylor Bremner 5'5", 121 pounds, Back; Anders Humphrey 5'6", 110 pounds, Quarterback; Steve Lee 5'5", 145 pounds, Linebacker; Conner Mooney 5 '4", 145 pounds, Linebacker; Bryan Moore 5 '6", 150 pounds, Line; Russel Moore 5'6". 150 pounds, Line; Trac Norris 5 '2", 88 pounds, Back; Shon Osborn 5'8", 197 pounds, Line; Brady Owens, 5'0", 90 pounds, Receiver; Kaz Pollock 5' 10", 181 pounds, line; Clayton Porter 5'2", 130 pounds, Center; Amanda Sevy 5'8", 1 15 pounds, Kicker; and Riley Taylor 5'0", 8 1 pounds, Center. Much work and effort were required in establishing the 7th and 8th grade football team. There were many individuals who donated their time and some financially assisted. Special thanks to the Lions Club whose generous donation permitted per-mitted the ppurchase of helmets. Others worked behind the scenes to appropriate uniforms, equipment and other necessary items. The successful season could not have been accomplished accom-plished without their help. The entire team and its coaches wish to thank the fans who strongly supported the team at home and away games. Your presence encouraged the players to reach deeper and play harder. Congratulations to each player. play-er. We are so proud of you ! |
