Show Page 6 It's September already! And it was really cold here about 5:30 this morning. I'm adding another blanket before I go to bed tonight! It has been a good summer with all the moisture we've received, we still have a big body of water in the reservoir, etc. and even though we have had our trials we have also been blessed. No earthquakes, no hurricanes, no flooding to speak of, so we must count our blessings and prepare for the winter. As many of you have noticed by now, Kathy and Jens Munthe have removed the siding from the old Mounteer (Sagebrush Mary) house to reveal its original brick. More recently, the porch has been renovated by Jacob Croft. If anyone out there has photos or remembers what the house looked like before it was encased in metal, they would love to hear from you. They are especially interested in knowing what sort of "gingerbread" decorated the porch and gable ends. They are in the phone book if you would care to call them. Turnabout is wanting to do some service hours for senior citizens or handicapped people. So if you have some work you would like them to do give them a call. One lady asked if they do windows? They may have a few girls that would even do that. I don't know! Volunteers are being asked to help with a cleanup around Larry and Jackie Withers' yards. Since they haven't been able to spend any length of time home this summer the weeds have probably taken up residence there. If you feel so inclined get in touch with your mayor, he may know of other jobs that need to be done. Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold their dinner-meeting at the Senior Citizen Center this week. Another sign that winter is almost here. They do not hold meetings during the summer months. Myron and Sannette Cottam had their son, daughterin-law and family here from Orem. Travis and Ashley Cottam. Gotta get those visits in before school gets the kids all enveloped in their activities for another school year. A large group of senior citizens gathered at the senior citizen center last Wednesday for lunch and a retirement party for Lane Liston. They not only honored Lane for driving the bus but they had fun as a group reminiscing about the good times they have had over the years. They have developed many friendships as they ate together, took MANY trips together, delivered meals and even enjoyed trips to the doctor together. They told lots of stories about their shopping trips and laughed because a lot of times Lane was the only man in the group and some people may have thought they were from Colorado City! This has been one of the nicest things that has ever happened to Escalante Senior Citizens. Having this program has been a great blessing for them.
