After beating Wayne at Region and ending up in 5th place, the Cats traveled to Tintic for a State play in game and came away a winner by about 30 points. They drew Rich for their first game on Wednesday and as they have done so many times this year, led going in to the last quarter, only to come up short. Panguitch matched up real well against the Rebels but it just wasn't to be. The Bobcats had a fan bus and had a 50 fan rooting section, it was a fun game to watch and the boys played their hearts out. The next day they faced the Valley Buffalos, who had beaten them on two other occasions. I was delivering meals on wheels and listening to the Yardley's on the radio and the Cats led at half time by 18 to 13, both teams had shots that were perfect at the line, the Buffaloes 5 of 5 and the Bobcats put in 4 for 4. I turned the game back on and the teams were in overtime with less than 1 minute left to go, the Cats led by 5 points, this was quickly erased by Valley sinking a three and coming back to take the lead by one. The Cats ended up only making those 4 free throws and were 4 for 13. This year the Bobcats were an exciting team to watch, with many close games and it looks like they have a lot of really good players coming back next year. Well Region 20 owners of the State Championship for a long time, Escalante 3 years and Bryce Valley with one championship, The tide has turned. This year was the first time that a private school played for the Championship, there were two teams. Liahona who only has been eligible to play in the last two years and Wasatch Academy who had never won a game at State. The shortest player on Wasatch's team was 6'1" and they have nine different nationalities on their team. Bryce Valley beat the Wasatch Tigers earlier in the year, but the Tiger weren't having any of that and took out the Liahona Warriors by 27 points. This has been a great year for Panguitch sports, starting with a second place finish in baseball. Cross country was a fun time with a lot of young runners taking part. The volleyball team took their second consecutive State Title and third in four years. The girls Basketball team was 1 or 2 most of the year and lost only 4 games by a total of 6 points and finished up 5th at State. The boys basketball team had great success by beating most of the teams in Region 20 over the year and winning a buzzer beater over last years champs Bryce Valley. We still have track coming up and I will report on these events when they happen. It been fun covering Bobcat sports and it has been my privilege, if the good Lord is willing I'll see you next year in the Sidelines. t. r=r, Licensed & Insured Professional, Clean & Reliable 25 Years Experience Now Serving Garfield County as to rim hi 4'11)1 435-679-8842 : all PI abiLei Lt Garfield Memorial Hospital Thursday, March 17t h For (AppovntineAfitk coal/ 676-1267 Mammography Office * Walk-ons Welcome * agethervay- KNOCK r rea/st Cam,c&r./ |
