Show MARCH 22,2007 by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com • 676-2376 "The Spring has sprung, the grass has rise(riz), I wonder where the flowers is?" Back when we were in Elementary School (and that's way back) we typically greeted each other on the first warm, Spring-like day with this ditty. 1 hadn't heard it for years until last Friday when Evalyn and I went to visit Monte and Cleo and we were remarking on how warm it was and Monte came out with this. I still have not been to the lake to check on the ice, but I was told that there is now some open water around the shoreline. I have not been fishing yet either, but my sad tale in last week's Knothole bore fruit. Wayne Smith (Smitty), one of my fishing buddies brought me four nice trout he had caught at Otter Creek Reservoir. These will do me until I can catch some myself (I hope!) I do not like to write sad news, especially when it concerns a good friend and someone who thinks of Panguitch Lake the same way I do. Art Chidcster called me last night and informed me that his Panguitch Lake neighbor, Fred Johnson, had received some bad injuries while pruning a tree at his home in California. Evidently the ladder he was on turned with him and he fell. His injuries included a broken shoulder and broken ribs, some of which punctured his lungs and were severe enough to send him into a coma. Fred and Ruth spend all of their Summers at their home at the lake which is the home that Dad and 1 built for Jack and Daisy Mae Knowles at the West end of South Shore Drive across the road from Art's new log home. "Oh the trouble and strife we have in this life". This was one of the often used expressions used by my father-in-law whenever any thing went wrong or became to difficult. I am beginning to know just how true this is for some of us. I have been taking treatments for my COPD for quite some time and have finally decided I could live with it, but a short time ago I noticed a tinge of blood in what I was coughing up so I made an appointment with Dr. Marshall and after keeping the appointment last Wednesday, I was told that I have pneumonia in my left lung. This rated a THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER Page 8 shot in the you know where on top of the antibiotics he had already perscribed for me and I was told to go home and take care of myself and come back and see him in a week. With Evalyn's help I am trying to do this but it is sure difficult on these nice warm days when there are Automatic & Standard so many things I have to do.
