Show Page 9 by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com • 676-2376 A couple of corrections to last week's Knothole. #1-Fem Henrie of whom I wrote is the daughter of Usher and Frieda Henrie, not Ches and Pearl. #2-Max and Glenda Excell are serving their Mission in Columbus , Ohio, not Dayton. I sent a corrected version the next day, but evidently Ryan received it too late to replace my first rendition. I am not going to acknowledge that age might be a factor in my making these errors so I am going to place the blame on my accident of a year ago or on global warming which seems to be getting blamed for everything that seems to be out of the ordinary. I had just finished reading some more of the crap concerning this that I was considering writing an article for the Spectrum (Daily News) and this was on my mind. (One positive thing about making an error is that it gives you something to start the following week and it lets you know that some people read what you write!) I am going to try to find something wrong that I can blame on the fact that the sun rises and sets each day. Global warming is just as much of one of our Earth's natural cycles as is sunrise and sunset but over a very much longer period of time and has been going on ever since our earth became a part of the Solar.System eons ago. Some of our environmental experts are trying to blame for our recent warming trend on the activities of man. I wish some of them would write and explain what caused the previous four or five Ice Ages (warming/cooling cycles) when there was no man on earth. Enough on global warming. Let's get( back to Panguitch warming. It is good to see the ice caving in on the creek (crick) and the water leaving the fields North of town. There is still about 2 feet of ice in my corral at the pasture but the water has gone from under it. Ed and Kathy (Crosby) Ping came from Eagar, Arizona to take Kathy's parents, Art and Beverly Crosby, to Mesquite for a three day stay. Art really enjoys his visits to Mesquite. This is how he keeps up with what is happening in the world of horse racing. I received a Panguitch Connection from Caroline (Foy) Robinson by E-mail telling me how much she enjoys reading the Panguitch Connections when I FEBRUARY 22,2007 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER include one. Before I share Caroline's with you I am going to explain what Panguitch Connections are so that our new readers can share one with us whenever they have one. A Panguitch Connection is whenever anyone who has lived in Panguitch for any length of time meets someone who has lived, visited or had relatives who lived or still living in Panguitch and meets this person in a most unlikely place and under the most unusual circumstances. I started writing about such an event after I met a Doctor from Florida at a World Jamboree of Scouting in Japan in 1972. The Doctor and his wife and son were touring the West and had motor home trouble just North of Panguitch. His short stay here convinced him that Panguitch had the most friendly and compassionate people of any city in the* world due to the compassion and friendliness of Scrib Gillies. His story so impressed me that I decided I would try to find out how widespread this reputation was. Back to Caroline's Panguitch Connection. She received a wedding announcement from from her Stake President that his son was getting married. When she reads the announcement she saw that the father of the bride was Steven Talbot. Caroline knew it was our Steven Talbot because she knew he lived in Escondido. Steven did not recognize her at first because it had been 30 years since she was the"bothersome little sister" when Steven and her brother, Howard, hung around together. Steven's daughter, Amanda (Talbot) Tew is getting her Masters Degree in music with emphasis on violin at BYU. She played that evening while her new husband accompanied her on the piano. Caroline said that Amanda's grandmother, Mamie (Class of 1940), would be very proud of her (I agree). Steven's brother, Allen, was also at the wedding. Allen lives in Enoch and his daughter works with Rick Holman in Cedar City. Rick is the son of Laurel and Louise Holman of Panguitch and was one of the scouts that accompanied me to Japan when this Panguitch Connection idea occured. Vee Henrie is home and feeling somewhat better following another short stay in our hospital where he was treated for pneumonia. Freid( Alfred)FuIlmer has been in our hospital again but is now back home in Circleville. Fried's wife is the former Lucile Henrie of Panguitch and he used to always spend the second weekend of the deer hunt with us at Kon's ranch. (This is what we talk about when I visit him—the good old days!) He talked to the children about his tribe and its traditions, then shared with them this fun fact: 'There are no swearwords in the Cherokee language." One boy raised his hand, "But what if you're hammering a nail and accidentally smash your thumb?" DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WOMEN AND MEN 1JVAMES If Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara go out for lunch, they will call each other Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara. If Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peartut-Head and Scrappy. 2.EATINGOUT When the bill arrives, Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom will each throw in a $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back. When the women get their bill, out come the pocket calculators. 3JVIONEY A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need, but it's on sale. Two women were shopping. When they started to discuss their home lives, one said, "Seems like all we do is fight anymore. I've been so upset that I've lost twenty pounds." "Why don't you just leave him?" asked the friend. "Oh! Not yet," the first replied. "I'd like to lose at least another fifteen pounds first." LET US KNOW The following advertisement appeared in a physical culture magazine: "Here's a good test for stomach muscles. Clasp your hands over your head and place your feet together on the floor. Now bend to the right at the waist as you sit down to the left of your feet. Now by sheer muscular control, haul yourself up, bend to the left and sit down on the floor to therightof your feet. Keep this up and let us know of the result." The first letter received by the magazine said "HERNIA" BUSINESS PROBLEM We were driving the other day and passed a business that was obviously having troubles beyond money. Their outdoor sign in front of the building read: $T0P $T3AL1NG OUR L3TT3RS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was and I told him, "62." He was quiet for a moment, then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"
