The great psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, has told us that, as humans, we have a "collective unconscious" aspect to our mental functioning in addition to unique individual conscious and unconscious capabilities. In other words, the millions of years that we existed in the natural world gives us the ability to recognize truth and light when we see it, to know what is natural or an artificial gimmick. "East Deer Creek" at about the 8,700 foot level on Boulder Mountain was difficult to do because it was mostly cloudy with periods of rain, wind and hail that ripped the leaves of the aspen trees and branches as I was painting. (No Gifts Please) ...by Chris Haycock, 435-826-4832, plaieofdreams@scinternet.net Hasn't this last week been wonderful? A couple of days of sunshine and than more rain. There is even snow on some of the higher knolls surrounding town. Our Moqui volleyball team beat Milford last week. Keep the momentum going girls!! Our Cross-Country team has worked hard all year and it is really showing. Coach Greg Allen says as well as the team is running this year it wouldn't surprise him not one bit if our Moqui's pulled in the State Championship this year. This last Tuesday, our Cross-Country team traveled to Mt. Carrnel to participate in the region meet. Cru Cochran came in with a great 2nd place finish, Jose Bustillos right behind for a 3rd, while Kevin Griffin placed 1 Oth. Timmy Hughes finished 16th and Keaton Durfey was 18th. Mike Munson, Kaden Griffin, Val Munson, Kaleo Wills, Kam Roundy, and Jace Taylor rounded out the team. The girls team was led by Airamee Beebe and Sharon Nez, followed by Justine Griffin, Griselda Bustillos, and Samantha Nez. This fine finish earned the Moqui's 2nd place at Region, only 1 point behind the 1 st place team, Panguitch. Only 3 points separated the top three teams, with Piute finishing 3rd. With a few more 8th graders joining the team next year, the girls can look forward to a great season and advancing even more. The team will be traveling to Sugarhouse Park this week to compete in the State Meet. GOOD LUCK MOQUI'S !!!!! Carly Quilter has helped the team keep things together as manager this year. Good Job Carly! Each team only has one home meet, so they don't get a tot of recognition. So the next time you see one of these kids, you just let them know your proud of them and tell them, "Congratulations on a season well done." "Made ya think" Escalante gets a new Elementary School! When was it started and finished? What was the approximate cost? Answer for last week is, Herbert Adams was principal and coach in 1928 when the Escalante boys were admitted to league basketball. That year the school published a mimeographed news bulletin called the Escalantan and a yearbook, 'The Moqui." |
