Congratulations David. Keep up the good work. Until next week - LETTER TO THE EDITOR To the Editor, In the May 7, 2009 edition of the ‘Garfield County Insider’, in the ‘In Our Town’ FYI PANGUITCH column, there is the following: Quote, ‘A bunch of good news, the Pres Obamas Stimulus Package includes $250 for everyone on Social Security and you should receive this, by the end of May.’, Close Quote. Now for, as Paul Harvey would say, THE REST OF THE STORY! Yes, we on Social Security will receive $250. This is from the Trillion plus Stimulus Package. But we all need to look beyond May and the Stimulus. We need to look at Obamas Budget for 2009/2010. Guess what? There is NO, ‘COLA’ (COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT), for Seniors. in the budget. In fact, there is no increase anticipated for the 2010/2011 budget either. Social Security recipi- ents have received a COLA every year since 1975. You can check the ‘New York Times’ May 3, 2009 and the ‘dailyfinance.com’ May 8, 2009, for stories about why we won’t get a ‘COLA’ for 2010, 2011 and maybe even 2012. This year I received a ‘COLA’ of $81 per month. And I received the Stimulus payment for 2008 of $600. So lets do the math! 2008 - $600 plus a ‘COLA’ on Jan 1, 2009 of $81 per month for 2009. A total of: $600 plus $972 equals (for me) $1572 gross. Now my medical insurance cost went up, as did my drug insurance cost. But at least I could off set those raises with the COLA’ for 2009. Now for the ‘bunch of good news’. This year you get $250. And NO ‘COLA’ in Jan. 2010. I’m very sure that my medical insurance and Part ‘D’ Social Security drug costs will go up next year. The net effect will be that my spendable income will GO DOWN. And so will YOURS!!! Enough for now, Tom Hartsfield ~ Panguitch Bryce Valley Area News by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Raymond and Ronnie Brinkerhoff of Tropic, are the proud grandparents of twins, born on May 7, 2009. Parents are Steve and Amber Simons of Lehi, Utah. A son, Clayton, and a daughter, Emmalee, entered this world two months early via “C” section at the Utah Valley Hospital. Each baby weighed just over 3 lbs. Each baby is doing great and breathing on their own. Amber is so thrilled she hasn’t yet felt the effects of the C section. The proud father laid his hand beside his little son and announced, “He’s the same size as my paw.” Amber called Grandmother Ronnie to report that both babies look just like her Dad, Raymond. Great-grandmother Ora Brinkerhoff, chuckled when she heard that the babies looked like her son, Raymond. “Why he looked just like a little shriveled up old man when he was born.” This has been a long standing joke, but Grandpa Raymond said when he looked at the babies pictures, “You know they do looke like me!” At home in Lehi, the twins brothers, Parker and Jakob are excited to bring the two little siblings home. The doctors say that event won’t take place until the last part of June. None the less everyone is happy and grateful all went well. Grandparents, Jarold and Nancy Simons of Pleasant Grove are happy to help with the boys until the family is all together again. Lots of aunts, uncles, cousins on both sides are making plans for the big coming home event. Congratulations to the family on this wondrous event in your life. While sister Amber was having twins, Dianna Leslie was with her husband in St. George, Dixie Regional Medical Center on May 7th. Randal Leslie is home now and recovering from back surgery, amazingly same day surgery. While the twins were being born Dianna was pacing the floor at the DRMC. Two major events in the family. At the end of the day everyone was exhausted, relieved and thankful that all went well. Randal is in for a long struggle with his health. Thank goodness we live in a time of miracles and advanced medicine. Get well Randal. The Leslie children stayed at Grandpa and Grandma Raymond Brinkerhoffs. Little Eli however demanded that he go home to take care of his Dad. Elis is just four years old but whit and “Old understandin”. “Dad needs me.” At 11:30 P.M. he got up and went home. Haven’t seen him in several days, h is keeping close to Randal. Dianna wants to express their thank you for money, friendship, hard work and caring by the towl folks. “Thanks to you all.” Tropic Ward has a new Relief Society Presidency. Crystal Mortensen is the New President with Gwen Brinkerhoff as 1st counselor, Machele Pollock as 2nd counselor, and Kim Stewart as secretary. Lynette Orton was called to be the “Compassionate Service Leader”. Congratulations to all of you on your new callings. A big vote of thanks was given to the outgoing presidency, Peggy Palmer, President, Keela Mangum 1st counselor and Florence Syrett 2nd counselor with Cheryl Pollock at secretary. Jacob Syrett was ordained a priest. He is the son of Eric and Tracy Syrett. Condolences to Kim Stewart and her family, the Gilles’ of Panguitch on the passing of their Aunt June. This past weekend the Stewart Clan all got together at the home of Dad Max Stewart and helped him with projects around the yard and house. They did yard work, cleaned sheds, worked gardens over and much more all while the grandkids played and had a great time. It is the right time of the year to clean off your family grave sites in preparations for Memorial Day. The people who work to keep the cemetaries in good shape appreciate you doing this for them. Word was received by Arthur and Vicki Syrett that their grandson, Jordan Jensen, who is in the Bahia Blanca mission had to have an emergency appendectomy but is doing well. He will be laid off for two or three weeks which is making him nervous. We are just grateful he is okay being taken care of so far away from home. He is the son of David and Debbie Jensen of Central Valley Utah. The Young Women of the Henrieville Ward had a daughter, mother, and grandmother evening. They looked at baby pictures and had a Memory Share. They also enjoyed homemade rolls and salad while they visited back and forth. The Relief Society had and Enrichment Activity called Book Share. The book they were all to read was “A Heart Like His” by Virginia Pearce, a daughter of Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley. Each Sister read a chapter and shared it with the others. It was a very enjoyable evening for everyone who attended. The Mother’s Day program was excellent in the Cannonville Ward. Three young men, Shan Thompson, Cody Ivie, and Jesse Jessen along with three men, Joe Thompson, Quin WIllis, and Fred Wagstaff all payed tribute to Mothers. BRYCE VALLEY SCHOOL NEWS by Vicki D. Just a reminder that elementary yearbooks are being printed right now so if you haven’t ordered yours you might be too late. A great big congratulations to Anthony and Hyrum Rose who along with their mother, Sarah Rose went to the Mock Legislature in the Utah State Capitol. They were able to act as representatives and took over the legislature along with other students from around the state. They passed bills and voted on bills that were actual bills that applied to the youth in the state. They did everything the Representatives do and Anthony even sponsored a bill.
