The Cornelia Loyhova Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers is looking for copies of the books Heart Throbs of the West and Treasures of Pioneer History. There are several volumes in each set. These books are the first ones published by the DUP and we would like to have them in our Museum. We would appreciate donations of any volumes you might have. The books can be given to Christine Littlefield, Annette Heywood, Angeli Sheffer or Barbara Talbot. At the Monroe Lions Club All Star Basketball games between the 1A and 2A schools, the 1A girls won out 60 to 52. The 1A girls were trailing by a score of 45 to 50 with only 3 minutes to go in the game. Kandice Gleave from Piute took control of the game and led the 1 A girls to an 8 point victory. Kandice was rewarded with the MVP award for her efforts. Our own Kalani Norris did a great job; it seemed that on top of her scoring, she was getting most of the rebounds. At half time there was a 3 point and a free throw contest. Little Ashely Nelson from Bryce Valley won both contest, with a near perfect shooting performance. She made 9 out of 10 three pointers and all 10 of her free throws, I think some of these NBA teams ought to hire her to shoot for their super stars. Sports are continuing, but on the bantam level. Volleyball, with the 4th to 6th graders and girl's basketball is going forth with the 7th and 8th graders. There is a Region 20 7th and 8th grade level basketball league with all the schools in the region taken place, except Valley. Kory Owens and Matt Houston and a number of their friends are coaching 80 bantam wrestlers. What a great way to build a competitive team, the Bobcats are losing one of their wrestlers through graduation and could pickup as many as 9 freshmen, next season. Maybe we can get these coaches to post when the matches or games will be played here. WE will be gone next week, so give me you news for the next two weeks. Mack 0. One of our favorite families is leaving our area to move to Kansas to work on a cattle farm. Carson and Beth Johnson have gone ahead to settle things in their new home and left the kids with Beth's mother and sister. She will come back and the whole family will move out in April. We will miss them very much. Arthur will miss his friend Carson who has helped him many times over the years. Welcome to the Gerard Morris family who have moved into the Marian Shakespear Mecham home. Gerard works up at Bryce Canyon and they have brought new children to our school system. His parents are Dale and Janece Pollock of Henrieville and proud Grandma is Glenna Pollock of Tropic. We wish the newlyweds a beautiful life ahead of them.. The fulltime Missionaries were busy today as they talked in both the Cannonville and Tropic Wards. Very enjoyable talks. Great-great-grandmother is Ora Brinkerhoff also of Tropic. That makes for a fifth generation picture event. Coming back from Cedar City on Friday we saw about six Highway Patrol cars all going south with cars pulled over and as we turned on the Bear Valley road home we passed two more. Wonder what was going on. Just a reminder of the "Runnin' for Heroes" 5K Fun Run and Walk on April 30th. Be sure to register early for $20 and receive a Tee Shirt. Scoutmasters in the area, Alfred Foster, Cary Deccio, Clint Pierson,Escalante leaders, and Dutzin Sorenson all joined together for four weeks to hold a Merit Badge Pow Wow that was Stakewide and included Escalante. All area participated and they had a great turnout of scouts and leaders every Tuesday for four weeks in Feb. and March 1st. The scouts aged 11 and up were invited to participate and they had a lot of fun doing this. There were many different merit badges offered with 4 different ones being done every hour. The scouts could earn 2 required badges during the four weeks or 4 electives during that time. They also ran a 1st Class Fast Start class for Tenderfoot and 1st Class Scouts to be able to obtain these goals so they could pass off the requirements. Merit Badge Counselors were also in attendance at the Pow Wow to be able to sign off the badges so they could pass. Each scout had "homework" each week and they only have until April 1st to finish up or they will have to start all over again on that particular badge. Clint Pierson was the one who organized this with his assistants helping and he said it was good to have that much participation from the wards in the Stake. All the Scout Leaders would like to express their gratitude to Clint and his assistants for doing the Merit Badge Pow Wow for the Scouts. Great job Scouts!!
