In the ten and under bracket were Panguitch, Kanab, Wayne, Gunnison, two from Beaver, and two from South Sevier. The 12 and under division featured the same teams except for Gunnison. The Panguitch ten and under squad breezed through pool play and clashed with a tough Beaver squad Saturday morning, in what proved to be a real, “barn burner.” Down 7 to 0 early in the game, the young Bobcats battled back to capture the win and secure a spot in the semi finals. Kanab was their victim in the semis, and it was on to the championship game against Gunnison. In the finale, the Cats rang up a relatively easy 8 to 3 victory to capture the crown. This team was so solid that Coach Gary Leach was hesitant to single out one or two outstanding players. Instead he stated, “It was a total team effort by a great group of youngsters. Way to team!!!” The 12 and under squad, led by home runs by Tyce Barney and Keldon Norris downed South Sevier’s 11 year olds in pool play, but dropped a game each to Beaver and the other South Sevier squad. Saturday’s tourney play saw the Bobcats down South Sevier’s 11 year olds 13 to 3. Standouts with the bat were Tyce Barney, McCrae Tebbs, Sam Brophy, and Keldon Norris. In the semi finals the Cats tangled with a tough Kanab nine, but came out on top, 7 to 3. Tyce Barney was outstanding on the mound, tossing an almost flawless game. Once more, McCraeTebbs, Tyce Barney, and Slader Matthews were the big guns at the plate. The championship game had the Cats facing a very talanted Beaver squad to whom they had lost in pool play. One really rough inning put them in a 9 to 4 hole, but led by Keldon Norris’ home run, Cody Peterson’s double and single, and doubles by Jordan Sidwell, and Rowdy Josie, they clawed their way back to knot the score at 9 all. In The Beaver’s half of the inning a blast to deep left brought home the winning run, and the Trophy for the Beavers. To the young men of Panguitch, a tip of the cap and a heartfelt well done for battling a tough team all the way down to the wire. |
