Show MARCH 8,2007 by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com • 676-2376 It looks like the short 'honeymoon' is over but it was appreciated while it lasted. It really ended witha t»arig.*A 27cent jump overnight! Such a sudden and large change makes one wonder just what determines the price of gasoline. As far as I can determine, none of the surrounding area experienced the honeymoon that Panguitch (and the early tourists) enjoyed. I have the feeling that this was just a gift to our citizens from the station owners. Cleo (Tebbs) Marshall called me to let me know that another former Panguitch resident of our generation passed away recently. Fern (Myers) Wilson died at her home after a long illness. Fern was the wife of the former Carol Wilson from Hatch and was the daughter of Jim and Grace Myers, long time, long ago Panguitch residents. Dan Marshall (son of Monte & Cieo) attended the funeral and told his mother that it was very nice and well tfttSade^k He also told Cleo that just a few days before Fern passed away, her children gave her a birthday party and one of her daughters gave her a family book which she had just completed. Fern and Carol had a large family (12 or 13 children if I remember correctly)and all of them were at the party. Fern's brother, Van, at one time managed a service station (The'Y'Service) located at the junction of Highway 89 and Scenic Highway 12 and from this station one of the best goose hunts I ever had started early one morning. (This is another story I will have to relate some goose hunting season.) Evalyn and I made the trip to Panaca Friday afternoon to see the play "Joseph & His Technicolor Dream Coat" presented by Lincoln County High School Page 8 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER and directed by our son-in-law, Pete Peterson. Pete has directed a school or community play or musical for several years and we have managed to attend all of them. At the end of this one, he announced that it would be his last as his job as Principal of both Panaca and Pioche Middle Schools demands so much of his time that he does not have the time to give to produce a top notch play or musical. The one Friday night was really top notch. It was not at all what I expected but both Evalyn and I really enjoyed it. The young man, John Thomas, who played the Elvis Presley part did the best impersonation of Elvis that I have ever seen and really brought down the house. I enjoy seeing our young folks perform in plays or musicals and am looking forward to seeing the one our High School is presenting in a couple of weeks. They take me back to my High School days and the plays in which I took part (no musicals) and to our JC days when we presented plays and musicals (with all male casts) to raise money for our Cemetary Project. Many of our oldest citizens might remember some of these. "There'sno whisker- It won'/ soften Shave them close -And not so often. CORRECTIONAL FACILITY INMATES WBYH BIG HEARTS DONATE GENEROUSLY TO A PANGUITCH CHILD Panguitch- It seems that most news reports focus on the negative and bad things that happen in today's society. Perhaps we need to focus more on the good things that occur and thus this story. When the inmates at the Garfield County Correctional Facility learned of a child living in Garfield County who was experiencing some extreme dental problems, they 'stepped up to the plate' and showed their tender feelings and desire to help. Their ability to earn money is very limited and so it is heart warming that they collectively donated $375.00 to provide dental services for a child who was in need. Many who donated the little bit of spending money have families of their own which makes the gift even more special. Thanks to those who helped. You made a difference in the life of a child! — |
