When the boys were grown and gone from home they moved to a ranch near Hatch, Utah, for Thomas's health. They lived on the ranch from 1973 to 1991. There Lois continued to care for her home and even drove the suburban while Thomas loaded hay on the trailer. Lois loved to travel. Thomas and Lois traveled the country a couple of times together. They moved to St. George in 1990, where for several years Lois continued to swim and exercise in the clubhouse pool.
