Show Page 201 God You Team I'm in New Jersey and had an opportunity to listen and talk to a cancer patient who was referred to me by her OB-GYN. We had a very good conversation even though she was scared when we began, but felt more confident and at peace by the end. At times like these I realize how grateful I am that I was once diagnosed with cancer and later tested positive for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome. And, most importantly, of how God has molded and shaped me --and still is-- so that He can use me. In Isaiah 64:8 we are told, "But now, 0 Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand." I absolutely love this scripture! How amazing it is that God knows what is best for us even when we don't agree or even know ourselves. Many people want to do the molding and shaping, but remember, we are not in charge. He is. How is God molding and shaping you? Are you fighting or embracing His molding and shaping? give back. How do you turn challenges into opportunities? A cancer educator I rode with for two days is an expert at this. He would say things like, "Nothing is difficult." And, "There is opportunity everywhere. Even during this recession. You just have to look for it and not give up until you find it." So to you who wonder what your life mission is, simply think how God's molded and shaped you. In adversity and in happiness. Then takes those experiences and help others. Once you do that you will find purpose and mission as we are told in Matthew 16:25, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." Then, introduce yourself to your teammates on the only all-star team that counts. God's. What mission or missions do you think He has in store for you? Or, how He is preparing you to be on His all-star team? Have you ever thought to take a moment and think about how He needs you? Ever since my cancer diagnosis, I frequently do. And so does a woman I met in my hotel lobby who said she's grateful that she was in and out of 20 foster homes as a child having experienced many trials and tribulations including being raped and not being loved by her mother. "If I needed to go through all of that so that I could help other foster kids," she said, "than it was worth every minute of it," she smiled from ear to ear. Wow, I thought. I am in the presence of one of God's all-stars. How fortunate and blessed I feel to have met Cynthia Kimball Humand been taught by her. phreys is a professional She didn't complain to me. I noted, upon registration, that there was no tuition fee for a person over 60. As I handed my tediously-filled-out papers to the clerk, I announced, "I'm 63." Then, pulling out my wallet, I asked if she wanted to see my driver's license. She replied, "No, that's okay." A little surprised, I asked, "Oh, do I look honest?" "No," she answered. "You look 63." Running in the Rain My mother went for her daily run one rainy morning. As she returned to the house, she slipped and fell, hitting her head on the driveway. I called the paramedics. When they arrived, they asked my mom some questions to determine her coherency. "What's today?" inquired one EMT. Without hesitation, Mom replied, "Trash day." CD Generation After I bought my mother a compact-disc player and some CD's, she was excited to discover she no longer needed to rewind or fastforward tapes or move the needle on her record player. Knowing she was not that technically astute, I called her a few days later to see how she was managing. "Fine. I listened to Shania Twain this morning," she said. "The whole CD?" I asked. "No," she replied, "just one side." ID Required I requested identification from a department-store customer who had just written a personal check for her purchase. (metal) Over a decade of experience! www.garagedoorstainingutah.corn (435) 616-2829 It Makes Sense...By Veda Hale I have opportunity to visit with many different people. For this I am grateful....most of the time. However, lately I feel myself sometimes filling with despair. The news isn't good, the responses to the news are not good . I forget my prior resolution to put things in an historical perspective and think "this too will pass". It has helped during this fourth of July celebration to receive a wonderful book by a now local adventurer, Bill Chapman, who opened a photographic gallery three miles north of Hatch. In his young days, he build a raft and floated the Mississippi River from start to finish and also did it again thirty-two years later in 2002. His perspective is right soothing. Rivers can call up in us a strong, visual and emotional reminder that movement and change and flow is how it is. Sometimes the flow has to put up with obstacles, but it just keeps doing its thing--flowing. Freedom, prosperity, greed, restrictions, too many restrictions, a tantrum of some kind and then back to freedom's peaceful flow. I suppose it makes sense to sometimes just go fishing, commune with a river and wait. And sometimes it means it makes sense to step up and help boost our lot in the flow through the rapids. That is the hard part, knowing when it is our turn to paddle or boost. I have no easy formula to know that time. For some of us, we can only be cheerleaders. And cheer for America I choose to do. I like what was in our Lake Branch Church program last Sunday. It was written decades ago by the beloved American poet, Carl Sandburg. Here it is: "I see America, not in the setting sun of a black night of despair ahead of us. I see America in the crimson light of a rising sun, fresh from the burning, creative hand of God. I see great days ahead, great days possible to men and women of will and vision."
