Show The Garfield County Insider .12ME,J 1 WITII Sony about last week, but we were on vacation in California. Got in a little golf, reading and warm weather. Visited old neighbors and just got away, and took it easy. Pat decided she prefers the cold and snow to all that traffic, Amen. Hope you made it to the Sound of Music. We took in two nights so we could see both casts. I don't know how Elaine Baldwin and Sherrill Church will be able to top this. Both girls that played Maria were outstanding and everyone involved were so good, it was a fun time. I was hoping to go up to the U and see Halie Sawyer play volleyball next year. Halie worked out with the volleyball team and they liked her and she liked everything about the program. But alas the NCAA says that she can only use her basketball scholarship for one sport, she still has one year left on it to get her degree. She would have to give up her scholarship and become a walk on in volleyball to get a VB scholarship. Unfortunately all of these are used up. So it's back to plan B, hitting the books and graduating. This last winter every time our heater came on at night, I thought about how this came about. Some times we think these things appear by magic. Back in the 90s City Councilman Craig Twitchell took on the project of bringing natural gas to Panguitch. Craig would not take no for an answer. I bet he was turned down at least 20 times, always going up the ladder and hanging in there. Even Questar turned him down and I think it finally took an act of Congress to bring this about. At that time propane was $1.65 and now it's over $3.00 and natural gas is at an all time low. I think that natural gas is the fuel of the future and it won't be long when you will see it powering cars. You can get your car converted but *Nig "Oa nedfsle NW, it is pricey around $8,000. Thank you Craig for keeping our family toasty this long winter. Earlier last month long time EMT Denise Dastrup went on a call where the patient wasn't responsive. Denise started CPR with the help of Robert Burns and kept the patient alive till she could be life flighted to St. George, where she was put on life support. The patient made it and is back home and doing well, thanks to Denise's prompt action. Yesterday was the St. George Ironman. Over 1900 competitors started the race, how many made it will have to wait till tomorrow. The race started with a 2 1/2 mile swim, the water temp was 58 degrees. The bike ride was 112 miles (about the distant from St. George to Beaver) the elevation gain was 4400', with 15% grades in places; followed by a marathon of 26 miles. There were a lot of professional competitors from 48 countries all over the world. The winning time was turned in by an Austrian, Michael Wiess 8 hours and 40 minutes. The women's race was won by a Canadian Heather Wurtele in 9 hours 35 minutes. These times just seem impossible. These runners are at this full time training and the money is good, there was $50,000 in prize money; $10,000 for first place. Steve Marshall made it clear to within 12 miles of the end the bike ride, when leg cramps took him out. Steve was out for over 10 hours so he got in his exercise for the day. Steve is all ready making plans for next year's race, with all the experience that he gained from this race, I bet he'll make it. FYI: A blog for the Quilt Walk Statue has been posted on the Quilt Walk website. You farmers, ranchers and antique tractor collectors polish up, fix up and gear yourself up for the Tractor parade at the Quilt Walk Festival. You chocolate gourmets get out your recipes and start planning on donating to the Chocolate Fest on Wednesday night of the Quilt Walk Festival. There will be are a silent auction at the Chocolate Fest so any donations will be appreciated and the money will go toward the statue. By the way... the statue is at the foundry. This is close to the last step of the process. It is graduation time for some of our Universities; proud parents let me know who is graduating. Keep the good stuff coming, Mack 0. He was alone in the car on the way back to Delta and rolled his vehicle. He wasn't wearing his seat belt and was ejected. They are not sure what happened, but have ruled out excessive speed, alcohol, or cell phone use as the cause. Michael is the son of Larren Le Fevre, brother to our Layne Le Fevre. Larren is the Seminary Teacher at Delta High School. They reported that one of Michael's favorite things to do was to take the sacrament into the homes of the shut ins and to visit with them.
