Show Page 2 The Garfield County Insider October 8, 2009 ENTERTAINMENT & EVENTS 4-H more than you’ve Ever imagined! It’s about projects. . .It’s about leadership…It’s about service. . .It’s about portfolios, fair entries and contests. And more! 4-H is as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4! 1. Bring together a group of young people with similar interests and a leader. 2. Choose a project from over 100 areas. 3. Enroll a group. 4. Meet and learn together while you complete selected projects. A 4-H project is setting goals and achieving them. A 4-H portfolio is about creating a record showing growth over time. The portfolio is a record of important information that can be used for future job application or scholarship applications. There are several ways to be in 4-H: family clubs or a group of friends getting together to form a club, project clubs and community clubs. 4-H is for all youth ages 8 – 19 beginning at 3rd grade. Pre-4-H (Clover bud) is for K-2nd grades and is available mostly through a family club setting. Clove buds also have certain limitations on project involvement. The 4-H year is from October 1 to September 31. 4-H youth must re-enroll every year. If you have not re-enrolled, you are no longer covered under the 4-H program. Please submit your paperwork before beginning your 4-H projects this October. We also have project kits available for check out from our Extension office, if you are interested in a kit contact the Extension office 435-676-1113. If you need any assistance please let us know! Pat Dix LADY BOBCATS CONTINUE UNDEFEATED Kalani Norris’ individual 17 kills and Chelsea Barney’s, Taelyr Tebbs’, and Breanna Bateman’s, combined 17 kills, led Panguitch to a 25-14, 25-13, and 25-10 victiory over Bryce Valley, Tuesday. BRYCE VALLEY DROPS CLOSE ONE TO VALLEY Despite committing nine errors Tuesday, the Bryce Valley Mustangs played Valley’s Buffalo’s to a stand still for 6 innings, before losing 12 to 11. Cam Roundy led the Mustangs with a home run and a double; Kord Chynoweth slammed a four bagger, and Kace Roundy chipped in with double as the Mustangs took Valley to the wire before losing it in the last inning. BOBCATS CLINCH SECOND PLACE IN REGION For the eighth time in eight seasons, Panguitch Coach Clint Barney has led the Bobcats to post season play, with a crucial 11 to 1 win over Valley, at Panguitch Thursday. Brooks Leach chalked up his eighth win of the season in decisive manner, allowing just 1 earned run, on 3 hits, while fanning 7. Leach also led the Cats at the plate, with 3 for 4, a pair of runs batted in, and two runs scored. Riley Miller blasted a 3 run home run in the Bobcat’s 6 run third inning, and Zach Brophy promptly followed suit with a solo shot over the left field fence. Cameron Fawson continued his onslaught with the stick, with a double, single, sacrifice fly out, and a pair of RBIs, and Caleb Holman drove in a run with a pinch hit single in the Bobcats big third inning. The sharpest play of the game came in the Cats 5th inning. With one run already in, and runners on second and third, Dexter Humpheys laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt on a suicide squeeze, to get Brandon Birch home with run number 10. Panguitch meets Tabiona at 4 pm, Tuesday the 6th, at Spanish Fork. PIUTE, VALLEY, AND MILFORD IN TIE FOR 3RD IN REGION 20 Saturday, October 3, Piute, Valley, and Milford squared off in a two game playoff, the winner getting the priviledge of meeting Dugway for a “play in” game to the State playoffs. In the opener, Milford scored 6 runs in the first 2 innings to jump to a 6 to 1 lead over Valley. Iron man, Paul Kesling gave up just 4 earned runs to keep the Buffs in the game, until his mates could surge to a 9 to 7 lead in the sixth inning. But the relief pitching could not hold it as the Tigers scored three times in the seventh, to end Valley’s season, 10 to 9. In the nightcap, Milford again jumped out to a 4 to 0 lead in the first inning, over Piute, but then the T Bird’s mound ace, Christensen, shut out the Tigers for the next 5 innings, while his team mates chipped away to take the lead at 7 to 4. Milford managed one more run in the seventh, until Chistensen slammed shut the door for a 7 to 5 win, and a Monday date with Dugway. 200 North 400 East • Panguitch, Utah • 676-8811 • www.garfieldmemorial.org Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation Dinner October 9, 2009 • 6:00 p.m. Garfield County Fair Building • 50 E. 90 N.
