Show HENRETTA POWELL RUS SELL CALLED BY last sunday august mrs Hel henretta lretta powell russell well kno knoer aad highly esteemed pioneer of t fit tolu community was called by death mrs russell was past 93 years oi 01 age and liar her death ended one of th most active and useful as well as jonir on f of the longest lives of 0 the tants ot of millard county she was L the hardy pioneer type the kind 0 woman that overcomes a they come and with ceaseless effar t continues onward with courage un daunted it if we w owe anything to th utah pioneers certainly we mus pay high tribute to the memory this good lady who was one of thea most strong courageous cheerfully cheer fullS I 1 energetic among them mrs airs russell was born in scotland iu in the year 1831 during tier her girl hood she was converted and became a member ot of the later day saint faith at the age of 0 25 she immigrated into this country and crossed the plains with the pioneers of 0 to utah it is reported that she bhe walked the entire distance mccross the plains the dagou with which her party came leing too heavily loaded tor for tier her to ride upon tier her arrival in salt lake valley she lived with one bishop hunter and his family and later she married bishop john L butler of spanish fork forkl some time later basho bishop butler died dici leaving her with fill two children a little boy and a little girl in tile the year 1861 1864 she married john powell and moved 0 to o deseret millard county there the powell family continued to live tho the deseret dam in tile the sevier river wash fed out and tedell lian they moved to meadow and from there to fillmore in 1885 mr air and mrs airs powell powe 11 went at the invitation of the church to st george where the did ordinance worp for nine months in the st george temple in the latter pait of tier her life mrs airs russell did a great deal of temple work laboring in all tour four of the temples in this state she it allen alien russell and t effat good couple spent 10 years doing work tor for the dead in the mantl temple all her life mrs airs russell has haa been unfaltering in fit her faith and a very active church w worker 1 she was mother to 9 child sten mm 7 girls and 2 boys three of whom are dead isabelle butler II enretta powell and mrs airs ellen kelly she is survived by john W butler sarah bartholomew anne beckwith Beckw fth hilife rogers alma powell and may funeral services were held tuesday afternoon in the fillmore ward chapel bishop parker robison presiding the speakers were T dark clark callister and F alonzo robison both of whom gave a glowing account ot of mrs airs russells exemplary life F earl stott rendered a vocal solo accompanied compa comp nied antei by his daughter reta services were opened by brother frank partridge and ane benediction Dene vene diction was offered by wm win B higgins lUg gins the remains were placed in the fillmore cemetery brother F attile atthe onzo robison dedicated grave |
