Show 72 1971 school calendar approved by district The South Sanpete Board of Education gave Its approval on Monday night to a proposed school calendar for the year 1971 The calendar calls for teachers teachers teachers teach teach- ers to return to school on August August August Au Au- gust 23 and the students to follow on August 24 Schools will close on May 25 with the teachers terminating the following following followIng fol fol- lowing day The holiday schedule for the year was outlined as follows County fair August 27 Labor Day September 6 recess 7 and 8 Fall vacation October 18 Thanksgiving November 25 and 26 Christmas vacation December December December Decem Decem- ber 24 through January 2 winter Mid-winter Institute Feb 5 Presidents President's Day Feb 21 Spring vacation April 6 7 and 10 Supt Winston Gleave Cleave reported report report- ed on the outstanding awards made to the Gunnison Valley High School FF A Chapter in both regional and state compe compe- Ution especially the Ule election of Bill BUl to the office of state president of the Future Farmers of America and the special award given Richard KJar former Manti resident as outstanding leader In the state Board member W. W McLoyd ErIcksen announced that the junior high music festival will willbe willbe willbe be held at noon on May at Snow College B Bus us bids were opened and discussed discussed dis dis- cussed and the board decided to accept the lowest bid as soon as the superintendent could compile the bids to include transportation and other extra charges and to make sure that all the specifications were me met Supt Gleave Cleave announced that the district has received tentative tentative tenta tenta- ti tive ve approval for funds of approximately ap approximately approximately ap- ap proximately for a handicapped handicapped handicapped han han- students daycare day care center center center cen cen- ter for Sanpete County He noted that the money would be available available avail avail- able for Immediate use and that he had checked with the state to get assurance that the funding would be continuous and not be cut back after the project project project was started The board gave its approval to the proposed program and authorized the superintendent to go ahead with the final plans and staffing as soon a as final approval is received from the state A motion was mace maue by the board to forward a resolution giving the districts district's approval for the recommendation that the Commissioner of Education be given cabinet post rank The board also approved a request that the secondary students students students stu stu- dents be given the opportunity to write letters asking for better treatment for prisoners of war Me Members of the board also endorsed two other projects for the Gunnison Valley High School The first was for the purchase of a water fountain on a 60 40 basis and the second second second sec sec- ond was that the board pay 60 of the cost of a 1200 sound system to be installed at the Gunnison High School gym |
