Show A4 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Cleveland discussess planning commission development Judi Bishop During the May 8 meeting of the Cleveland Town Council a discussion over the development and enforcement of zoning ordinances dominated much of the meeting. Michael Bryant from Urban Development in Price who had been asked to look over the existing ordinances in the town and he addressed the council, informing them that they needed to seriously work on the town’s ordinances. Mayor Chris Parkins explained that the town has been without a Planning and Zoning Committee for more than 10 years. The town is in the process of developing a new Planning and Zoning Committee, but further plans for the committee were tabled until the next meeting of the council. Dee Larsen from the Castle Valley Special Service district had been ask to attend the meeting to answer questions the council had in regards to future water hookups in the community. The council had received a letter stating that the district would not allow hookups unless the property had been annexed into the town. Larsen stated that the town could annex property into the town and the district could allow water hookups. When the district has its five-year annexation meeting it would formally annex the area into the district. The council had more detailed questions and Larsen finally recommended that they speak with district manager Darrel Leamaster for further clarification. The council decided to invite Leamaster to its next meeting to provide further information on the issue. The council approved the purchase of a new power washer for Steve Taylor’s use at the town maintenance shop. Mayor Parkins also asked Councilman Greg Oliver if he would be the town liaison for Taylor to go to for information or problems. The council was presented with a copy of items that needed to be reviewed before the June meeting, including budgetary items as the new fiscal year approaches. Greg Oliver reported that the fire department will be holding a fundraising car wash on the May 17 at the Cleveland Fire Station. Inclement weather will be the only cause for cancellation of that event. A zoning permit was awarded to Phyllis “Dot” Allred for the modular home she will be placing on a lot in Cleveland. Mayor Chris Parkins presents a certificate of appreciation to Greg Oliver. At the end of the meeting the mayor presented Greg Oliver with a certificate of ap- preciation for his response to two accidents.
