Show Reporting the Cause of Death. Taking the United States as a whole the registration of births and deaths has been greatly neglected, declares a writer In the Medical Record. Until 1880 the only states enforcing laws compelling returns of the causes of death were Massachusetts and New Jersey. These have greatly been added add-ed to, until at the present time 18 states, the District of Columbia and 54 cities in non-registration states have passed laws or ordinances requiring re-quiring the attendant physician to report re-port the cause of death before the interment of the body. As the matter now stands we have about fifty-rive per cent, of the total population of the continental United States represented repre-sented in the registration area. |
