Show DOUBT REPORT OF DEATH! ILA RUMOR OF TAKING BODY OF BANDIT CHIEF FROM GRAVE LACKS CONFIRMATION. Nephew of Carranza Said to Have Found Body, After Being Guided to Grave by One of Villa's Former Followers. Washington. There seems to be a growing doubt as to the truth of the story that Francisco Villa had died from his- wounds, and that his body had been taken from the grave by a nephew of General Carranza, who was guided to the grave of the dead bandit ban-dit by one of his former followers. In fact, there are those high in authority au-thority here who believe that the man who led a force of Mexicans across the border and murdered American citizens at Columbus, N. M., has eluded elud-ed the American forces, and is hiding In some mountain retreat. According to dispatches which came from Mexico City, Pancho Villa was supposed to have succumbed to injuries in-juries received in the fighting around Guerrero. It was said that he was shot through the leg, it being found necessary to amputate the limb. He was taken by faithful followers to a hiding place, where the amputation was perforced, but the wounded man failed to survive the operation. The identity of the wounded man had been kept secret from all but a faithful few, and he was buried in secret. se-cret. Then one of his followers who alleges he was present at the burial, was captured by General Carranza's nephew. In exchange for his life, the captured man gave the location of the grave, and it was asserted that the body was taken from the grave and was to have been taken to Mexico City. But there has never been any report of the body arriving at the Mexican capital. |
