He and his wife, Shirley, his brother, Joseph, and Joseph's wife, Sally, are the only employees of the store. “We have the product knowledge and experience and the ability to communicate with people; Jerrold said of the company’s niche. Mack & Sons is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Its story is unusual, however, _ in that most of its history is in northeastern Oregon. They moved into their present building last year. Jerrold said he and his brother and their families moved because northeast Oregon was looking at bleak economic times when they did so. “We began to look for areas for a fresh start; Jerrold said. Still, we were attracted to St. George because of its climate, its central location and its growth potential. We felt there was a place for us and our style of business.’ Fabian Mack and his wife Irene, originally from Minot, North Dakota, opened their first jewelry store in Baker City, Ore., in April 1949. They eventually operated multiple family stores in that part of the state. “It was like the American dream,’ Jerrold said. “Dad served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was from an agricultural background but when he came back from World War Il, he decided he wanted a different way of life.
