S AND STATE JOINTLY The following Information Uon with reference to winter road conditions into the Uintah basin comes from Salt Lake I J. J T. T Tullis superintendent of the mall service on the stage line route between the Uintah basin and the railroad at Price or Castlegate in interviewed interviewed interviewed in- in the state road commission with reference to efforts to keep the Helper Duchesne-Helper road open all winter The road crosses a somewhat somewhat somewhat some some- what high saddle but otherwise is preferred to the Price Price-Myton road by which route the city of Duchesne Is cut off of from the main line The Price Price-Myton road is hard on equipment equipment equipment equip equip- ment and also costly to keep in passable passable passable pas pas- sable condition but for tor practically all hI winter it is possible to get across by this route Last winter the Helper Duchesne-Helper route was closed for tor several months The county of Duchesne in which the principal mileage on this road lies is unable to do much toward keeping the route open Mr Tullis pointed out that the maintenance of the service is costing the postoffice department about a year He thought that the state ought to assist In keeping the road open at least The State road commission is without without without with with- out funds at present for expenditure on road maintenance but it was suggested that it might from its I war surplus supplies furnish suit suit- able allo equipment to keep tho the hl highway hway open if ir tho the government will mann this equipment and pay for the gasoline Somo Some such arrangements will probably be tried out out |
