Show ! Eastern Carbon county has the brightest future of any area in the Intermountain nr j ! nbune area mW. a" i 'vA Dragerton, Utah, February 15, 1949 "p 2 Weather Idles LETS STOP Cold SET FOR THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT Alines by Slowing BEHIND OUR RECREATIONAL Movement of Cars East Carbon is growing up. It is time that everybody realized it. It is necessary that there be athletic facilities for the people in their leisure time. We are a community of 7000 people with very little entertainment for the off hours. A group of energetic youngsters started a ski slope within several miles of Sunnyside. It was and is a community affair. At the present time these youngsters need help, both financial and physical. They have done a splendid job in getting this very worthwhile outdoor sport started. They cannot do it all themselves. The companies, Utah Fuel, Kaiser, the Coke Ovens, the Geneva Mines, the unions, the welfare and athletic associations should all get behind this with both money and manpower. It wont take much from anybody if they all work together. Just a little help will put this ski slope over the hump. Clear Creek with only a population of one tenth that of East Carbon has a ski slope that brings people there from all over this area. East Carbon can have just as fine a slope at its back door. All we need to do is to develop it. Many have helped so far but what we need is cooperation to get this job completed for the enjoyment of everyone. It is a crying shame that a community with as much wealth in it as we have both among the individual people as well as in the companies that we cannot get in the harness and develop these athletic facilities. This is what keeps communities contented; it decreases the juvenile delinquency problem. It is worth a bit of time and effort on the part of all of us to see that we do have the proper recreational diversions. This is our job, not somebody elses. We have ceased being a whistle stop. We are a large and growing community with responsibilities. Lets take hold of these responsibilities and not try to shove them on to someone else. All-St- Rie best all around sport card' ever to be presented in Carbon; county has been set for this corn- -; tag Wednesday, Feb. 16. HiSh-V- n lighting the evening will be a bas- ketball game against the two star teams, Geneva Steel and Fisher Beer These two teams have met m the past and the outcome has ""n m Hnubt until the, s' final whistle. At the present time the Geneva Steel team is in first place in the VFW league with Fisher Beer just out of first place. "The comedy highlight of the evening will see the East Carbon Bearded Beauties playing against the Colored Ghosts of West Carbon. Included in the Bearded Beauties lineup will be Bill Lindsey, Cliff Powell, Doug Bon, Royal Allred, Ted Jones, Nick Bikakis, Frank Ellis, Red Poglajen, Albert Menotti, Boyd Lindsey, Vern McCabe and Don Ross.
