It might be that some will not be local to East Carbon, but we will try and see that they' at least carry something of infer- est for our section. Note that Tolboe and Harlin, contractors of Provo, have re- cerved a contract for foundation and excavation work at the F Pai ts Co. coke Ovens out herp in This man Tolboe . . East Carbon. is really one of the leading civic leaders of Provo, and we welcome him on this job. Mr. Tolboe is not only in the contracting busi- -' ness but he owns the Provo radio station and is the leading spirit and president of the New Hotel project for his city. But that is not all, Cliff Tolboe Is the just past president of the Provo Chamber of Commerce. You will recall it was this organ- -' ization that just recently started a move to curtail smoke from coal. At that time, the Carbon ' County C. of C. in the interest of - coal miners asked the names of the violating companies irt Provo and Utah county, so that an ' could be' issued to" these offenders to move to Carbon County, an opportunity. Now, . what Here will be Past President Cliff Tolboe working near the great smoke producer, the U. F. coke ovens and we hope he remains with us long enough to see the K-- F ovens in action. He will then see plenty of smoke. And what Is more he will still seeplenty of Carbon County sunshine.' This " evidence" should. 1e sufficient for him to join with us in our campaign to move the smoke producing industries from Provo to East You bet we can use Carbon. them, and we will treat them right We want Cliff to tell the boys up his home town way just how he gets treated down here. If he lives up to his reputation as an honest radio broadcaster, we can assure you East Carbon will be plenty recognized, We are alarmed though that Cliff may be able to learn the real reason for the smoke clouds over Provo. After seeing more smoke come out the coke ovens than comes out of all the small business and resident chimneys in Provo, and see it disappear in the good clear and pure atmosphere of Carbon County, without creating a darkening or cloudy effect, he may come up with the answer. That answer Is easy and Is, that the fault does not lay with the Innocent coal burners, who are now being accused, not only In Provo but In Salt Lake City, and rumblings are being heard in Ogden, but Instead with the pioneers who picked out the sites for location of these now fine cities. Of courseeven the pioneer founders are" npt to blame because we are certain if they could have looked into the future, they would have come down here in the wider open spaces and We would not only now be the Coal Center of the West . . . but who knows, The Steel Center of the West. Certainly It is not too late to have the Cattle and Packing Center of the West . . , Yes, coal is an accused offender, but still we think coal is not entirely guilty. All we can say is East Carbon will welcome the smoke, if you give us the industry. i I Well give your Dodge or Plymouth new looks and new performance.
