Jones, president, was in charge and presented Earl H. McAlpine, program chairman. Mr. McAlpine introduced a group of students of Wasatch Academy, Mt. Pleasant, Utah, who presented a musical program. Marilyn McAlpine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. McAlpine, Columbia, and a senior at Wasatch Academy, played a piano solo, Nocturnal, by Edward Greigg; Bob Moore, a sophomore at Wasatch from Caliente, Nevada, played a cornet solo, accompanied by Marilyn McAlpine; Margery Boyer, a senior at Wasatch from Tuba City, Arizona, sang two vocal numbers, Only You and Lady Moon, accom- A prayer service and musical program will mark the close of school for the Thanksgiving holiday at East Carbon Junior High School on Wednesday, November J6, at 1 p. m. Reading, Pollys Thanksgiving -- TO BE HELD AT DRAGERTON POSSIBILITY There will be held in Dragerton a cooking demonstration conducted by the representatives of the Utah Power & Light Company and Flint Distributing Company. This cooking school will be held during the week of December 1st. The place Recreation Hall, Cath-ol- c Church, Dragerton, Utah. For the use of this school we will fix up a hot water tank and also a Kelvinator range for the cooking school. Mrs. Black, a representative of the Utah Power & Light Companj , is at the present time making a house to house call. She is instructing all of those who so desire the most efficient methods in all electrical appliances. Among those appliances which we will all be interested in are the new electric stove and hot water tank. However if we have any other appliances she will be happy to help us with those. FOR EAST CARBON WELLS BARRON LEAVES DRAGERTON Mr. and Mrs. Wells Barron have left Dragerton to live in Salt Lake City. Mr. Barron will manage an apartment house and work at the Universty of Utah The Mountain States Telephone Telegraph Company today announced that representatves of the company will canvass Dragerton, Sunnydale, Sunnyside and Columbia and will continue until they have contacted all residents of this area in regards to telephone service to be installed sometime in 1948. & GENEVA STEEL SEEKS EVICTIONS Five new complaints have been filed with the Price city court by the Geneva Steel company seeking the eviction of tenants in company owned houses ata Dragerton. These complaint? bring the total to 15 that have been filed by the company since it undertook to enforce tenant leases which state that the houses are to be occupied by those who are employees of the company. The complaints state that the tenants had been served with notices to quit upon the termination of their employment with the Geneva Steel company. This is approximately 25 r of the number found in Carbon County. This indeed is a very sizeable portion. Lets get right down to the meat of the question. Who is going to toot the horn for East Carbon to see that she gets what is rightfully hers? Who is going to watch out for East Carbon? Nobody except East Carbon herself. The School Board election is coming up this next week. It will be held on December 3. It is up to the parents to see that our 1500 or so school children get proper representation on the board. We want the finest schools possible for our children. We want them to grow up to be the future leaders of our nation. We can get the finest schools in the country. Like everything that isworthwhile it takes time and effort. However one of the first steps toward getting the type of schools that' we want is to elect a member of the East Carbon section to the School Board. The candidate from East Carbon is Frank Hicks. Mr. Hicks is well qualified by experience and education to give us the type of leadership needed on the School Board. 1. He has school board experience. For 12 years he was a member of the board in Wyoming. 2. His experience in the business world has proven him to be an able leader and administrator. 3. He is a former school teacher and understands school problems. 4. His background in school as a college graduate makes him realize the value of education for our children. 5. Frank Hicks is definitely interested in schools and has declared that he will do everything possible to see that East Carbon has as fine an educational setup as there vis in the country. 6. PTA Organization Is Very Active The PTA of East Carbon held a very Interesting meeting last Thursday evening at the school. President Ray Bowen presided and after the minutes of the previous meeting were read the session opened with the various ways that the PTA could work to advantage In helping the school and students. Safety improvements within the School were discussed and plans laid to correct this. The appointment of a safety committee was decided on for the next meeting. Progress was made toward getting transportation for the Pep Club to accompany the team when visiting.
