Without the persuasion of his friends, and, yes, even the faculty, would anyone want to become a candidate? This backing gives him the confidence that he needs for the job. This is the reason I am in favor of changing back to the petition form of nominating. Our new elec- tion policy has many advantages. But the write-ivote and subse- n Club. Arts Among Dixie Colleges most consistent supporters have been the faculty women. THE FACULTY WOMENS CLUB of Dixie College finished a decade of contribution to the school by last week presenting officials with a check for $1,000. The money will be used for a paint frame for the new Fine Arts Center. During the ten years since 1951 the club has contributed almost $9,000.00 to the college most of the money was raised through the clubs Community Birthday Calendar program, and most of it has gone to the Dixiana residence hall. The club has contributed more to Dixiana than any other organization in the area. In 1957 they donated $800.38; between 1952 and 1954 they raised $928.84; and between 1954 and 1956 they contributed $2,772.46. In 1957 they gave $1,192 86; in 1958 they gave $1,188.79; and in 1959 they gave $1,112.60. This years $1,000 check brought their total contribution to $8,995.93. Theyve helped buy a piano, a quent election of John proves the system is not without fault. Had the system requiring a petition with fifty signatures been in effect, John and perhaps other candidates would have been in the primary. The voter may think that because a candidate does not enter himself in the primary, he is not interested in the office. think that requiring a petition for each candidate in each office will be an adantage over both the former and present election systems.
