The Tobacco Evil The Lord has said tobacco was made not for the use of man, but for a medicine for bruises and sick cattle. In the toilsome pathway of life there are many obstacles which hinder our progression, and tobacco is one of them. Tobacco is a narcotic which has a strong disagreeable smell and an acid taste. This narcotic drug is extremely poisonous. It stimulates the nervous system in such a way that a craving or false appetite is produced which can be satisfied only by further using, if this is denied the individual becomes nervous, irritable and depressed, but if he smokes the nerves are soothed and tired muscles have a spirit of rest. Tobacco is placed before the child by older men whose practice of using it has formed a relish that is so strong that it is almost unconquerable. We all know that tobacco contains nicotine and that this substance is harmful. Boys and men confess that this injures their bodies and character. Why do they take this injurious poison? It is just simply because they have the habit fixed upon them in youth and they cannot, or at least do not, resist the temptation. Tobacco causes one to be soreeyed, sickly and short winded. The users are more subject to pneumonia and diseases of the air passages. Besides producing the weakened action of the heart known as tobacco heart, nicotine has a marked effect on the boys brain. Dr. McKee ver reports that out of 2.336 youthful students attending the public schools, only six were reported as bright students. Dr. J. W. If this move is successful it will be a great advantage for the young people and will also be a great boost, for the church high school, for it will increase the number and quality of the students. Fathers, if you would, make companions of your boys, instead of letting them go in bad company, it would greatly decrease the number of evils. And if you would get closer to your sons you can help them overcome this habit but if you are numbered with the users of tobacco, you ought also to refrain from it if you want your son to do so.
