Show THE DIXIE OWL Athletic Notes Debating Notes Local and Society Coach Paxman is very optimistic about the athletic prospects of the D. N. C. this school year. He has had the boys playing baseball the last few weeks, and declares that the school is full of first class material. With such lettered men back as Prisbrey. Hafen, McArthur and Bring-hurfor the basketball and Wells, Milne, Stucki, Crosby, Terry, Hunt and Seegmiller for track work, as well as our halls full of men who can make good by working out, he feels that Dixie is stronger than ever before. Mr. Paxman though quiet, is full of enthusiasm and has the following schedule planned. 1 Baseball games with Enterprise, B. A. C. and Hurricane. 2 An interclass track and field meet this fall in which seven places will be given in order to get as many to participate as possible. 3. A cross country run at Thanksgiving time. 4. The usual peppy, interclass basketball series, after which a school team will be chos- The prospects for debating are very encouraging this year. Our debating manager is already dearranging for C. A. B. bates between Parowan, and the Murdock. He has received an inquiry from Millard Stake Academy and is trying to arrange a debate with them. Students are taking an active interest and promising team are expected. Tuesday, October 12, the Dixie Debating Society started its seasons work. The following School life at the D. N. C. started off with a zip and a bing this year. The Freshies and st en. Many schools are writing in for practice games, among which is the West Side High School of Salt Lake, with whom a game is scheduled on December 22. The coach says well gladly accept practice games with any school that can give us a real fight. Now then, ye men of the D. N. C. Dixies winning program this year, get busy. There are activities for all and as our coach says, the places are open to any man who will work and make good. For athletic are the same as everything else, the man that works is the man that makes good. Get out and try boys. Athletics and the shower bath will make you clean, keen, red-bloode- he-me- n. d, inter-scho- ol de-bato- rs elected, Pres. Schuyler Moody, Vice Pres. Lizzie Snow, Secy, and Treas. Keith Seegmiller. A good season is promised those interested in Debating and Oratory. officers were Tennis Notes Forty tennis sharks met Oc tober 19th to organize the club which will act as the lubricant for the big wheel of this institution. They were organized with Crawford Houston as Prest., Lida Cox as Secy, and Treas., Louie Harris, Owl reporter. An entrance fee of $1.00 was decided on. The 50 per cent increase being due to the construction of a new court which is now under way. This year is going to be the biggest year in the reign of tennis sharks in Dixie. There will be a series played with partners and then class competition will begin. Everybody join and help them carry the true spirit of a real club. L. H. Sophs had about all coagulated around the campus by the second day of registration and by the end of the week most of the Juniors, Seniors and dignified old college plugs had put in an appearance. At the end of the second week after we had given ourselves time to find out who was back to school, shake hands with everybody and say Hello, Old Top. glad to see you back again, the class elections were held, which started things going. The next week the student body elections were held and politics began to play for sure. Frank Crosby and Keith Seegmiller were elected leaders of the Pusher and Tooter parties respectively. The campaign was one of the livliest in the history of the school, party spirit ran high, rallies were held every day, and the college door and hallway was plastered with posters and cartoons. The battle raged until Friday when the election was held, the termination of which left everybody in a good humor. Henry J. Miles is now Student Body president, he is assisted by the following officers : Schuyler Moody, Debating Woodbury, Manager; Mary Commissioner of Amusements ; Frank Crosby, Yell Master; Ex-Jud- ge Glen Prisbrey, Athletic Manager; Walter Cannon, Year Book Manager; Wyatt Miles, Prose- Attorney ; Katharine Miles Asst. Prosecuting Attorney; Rodney Snow, Judge; Edna cuting Snow, Commissioner of Finance ; Elizabeth Snow, Editor of the Owl ; Glen Snow, Business Manager; Karl Larson, Chief of Police.
