Since then, the field of home computers has virtually exploded with systems capable of simple functions such as managing the family budget, to systems capable of ' expanding to teh task of running the whole house, everything from climate control, security, energy conservation, and answering your telephone calls to giving your children tutoring in classes or playing them a game of chess or asteroids ... If that sounds like science fiction, its not. With minithe advent of solid circuit chips commonly known as computer chips, computers have become something within the financial reach of most American families. Most computers of the home variety consist of a keyboard unit, a TV monitor screen (black and white or color) and a tape recorder. The keyboard has most of the computer electronics, and the information is displayed on the TV screen. The tape recorder acts as the computers memory using a cassette tape to store the electronic impulses known as bits and bytes. A bit is the smallest amount of information that can be known and means binary digit (one or zero). A byte is a computer word, composed of varying numbers of bits, depending on the unit. Families that want to own a home computer can get a unit that is so easy to program that the average housewife or teenager can use it. Additional units can be added to many of the basic systems to expand its capabilities. Additional units can expand the memory from the normal 4 kilobits to 16 kilobits. Some units can be expanded to 48 kilobits and beyond, which are more than adequate for almost any job that you could normally use it for in the private home. Printers for printing out hard copy from computer memory are also available for most units as telephone tie-i- n units that allow access to other computers and information services, such as the . micro-process- or When looking for home computers, some basic terms are necessary for understanding computer systems, and what their capabilities are. RAM: abbreviation for Random Access Memory and is the main memory of any computer which can store virtually any kind of information. The information can be retrieved or changed at any time, but in most units, once the power is shut off, the RAM is dumped or lost, and must be fed back in to continue work the next time the unit is used. ROM: No, this isnt the abbreviation for the superhero space knight, it stands for Read-onl- y memory and is permanently placed in the machine by the manufacturer. It is permanent, cannot be added to or modified and is not lost when the power is cut off. IO: This is used to signify, input and output devices, such as a keyboard, which is an input device. and printers, video screens and phone hookv ups are output devices. - job as a military policeman. While hes here he said that he hoped to get into mountain climbing and since he had a brief taste of snow skiing in Colorado, hed like to try it in Utah. Since it deals with a book that many will look upon as an attack on the Mormon Church, we talked about the impassibility of anyone writing an objec- tive book about religion. Those within the religion are bound to have opinions and comments that are not shared by those outside the religion. Some of the harshest novels about particular religions are written by members of that church; Cardinal Sins by Father Andrew Greeley, is a recent example of this. In the aid, a reviewer can only look at the novel as a work of fiction and let the reader accept it or reject it, according to their belief). The Kingdom Come, by Peter Bart, is a contemporary look at the hierarchy of the LDS Church and how a selection of a First Counselor leads to dramatic changes in the lives of many. Dana Sloat is an ambitious man who seriously wants to bring the LDS Church into a position of prominence', not only in Utah, but in the United States. He bases his feelings on the knowledge he has before him, of all major religions, only the. Mormons and Islam are showing any signs of strength. The LDS Church controls more money than any other American church, and its property, holdings are immense. With this as a power base, Sloat is determined to bring the fusty leader- ship of the Church firmly into the twentieth century. Some people oppose Sloat. Eliza Hastings, the president of the Relief Society, sees Sloat s election 882-65- 79 form 1040A. The IRS listed also these other common errors: selecting the incorrect tax form the tax table; not claiming the eamed-incom-e credit when eligible to do so; eamed-incom- e of amount an incorrect credit; . claiming medical and dental incorrectly computing expenses when itemizing deductions on schedule A; not excluding from income up to $200 in qualifying interest and divi- dends ($400 for a married couple filing a joint return). Hie IRS recomends that taxpayers who yet need to file their tax returns to take care in following the instructions in their tax packages. Taxpayers also should review their completed returns to avoid delays in receiving their refunds. 11 of -- Mhceapm fiod Wnh Otkcr faunan g 3.
