Show The Deseret Sampler, Friday, July 20, 1973 CHAPLAINS CORNER Waiting on God Allowance for remote site travel under consideration You can learn more about a friend from listening to him talk than by talking to him. We can learn much from God and about God through nature, through llis Word, by the lives of tyiuse to whom He has touched, and in many other wavs. But nothing is as important as listening to the still, small voice that speaks to our hearts at the conclusion of our prayers. Perhaps you will find it more beneficial to wait upon the Lord at the beginning of your prayer than at the end. Personally, however, I find it more natural to wait upon the Lord at the close of my prayer time. PRAYER IS A conversation, a union, an interminglof two personalities. God speaks to me and I speak to ing Him. Suppose I were to call my wife long distance and say, Hello, dear, how is the weather up there? Are the children all right? We are having a wonderful time here. Ill see you Sunday. I love you. Good-by.- " Have we had a conversation? Of course not, I have done all the talking. Many of us hav never begun to know God because our We have never learned to prayer life has been wait upon the Lord and let Him speak to us. How many times have you sought the solution to some distressing situation by spasmodically turning through the pages of your Bible, trusting the Lord to lead you to the solution? You have probably found the words wait upon Top suggestor David Young, Communicationii- - Electronics, receives a certificate as suggestor of the year (fiscal year 73) from Lieutenant Colonel John E. Adams, post executive officer. One of Mr. Youngs suggestions saved more money than any other single suggestion processed during the year. one-side- d. God and ielt Gixl was directing you to le patient and not in a hurry for the solution to your problem. This, however, is not what is implied by waiting on God. Waiting on Cod is nut a mere attract passing of time, it is a definite spiritual exercise during which, after having spoken to God, lie, in turn, speaks to vou. Hie Bible is filled with these directives: Our soul waiteth for the laird i Psalm 33:20), 1 will wait on thv name (Psalin 52:0i, "My soul waiteth upon God (Psalin' 104:27), They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31). Waiting upon God requires our entire being. It is not drifting into daydreaming, but is rather an exercise that demands our keenest attention, our most alert frame of niiiid and all of our soul's attention to the heavenlv voice. 1 have never personally heard the voice of Gixl, tiuxigh 1 hau heard some people, in whom 1 had the utmost confidence. say that they heard the audible voice of Gixl speak to them. Perhaps they did. I do not know. God, however, speaks to me and will speak to most of us through thoughts, ideas, and impressions.' Taken from THE POWER OF POSITIVE PRAYING by John R. The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has been requested to determine the eligibility of employees commuting to Dugway to receive a special allowance for daily travel to remote worksites, according to Donald G. Paul, Ci- vilian Personnel Officer. To qualify, distance traveled must exceed 50 miles one way to a post that is remote from the nearest established community or suitable place of residence; andor in travel time must exceed two hours round trip. It is assumed that Tooele would be designated as fitting the criterion. Tooele is located approximately 45 miles from Dugway, the officially designated duty station. Based on this assumption, the minimum criteria in terms erf mileage would not be met. In terms of travel time, however, the shortest distance (via Johnsons Pass) sometimes exceeds the two-horound trip minimum, when road conditions, terrain and so forth are taken into consideration. If it were determined that Dugway commuters would lie eligible, the allowance would be made retroactive to Jan. 8, 1971, the date of the Presidents approval of the law. ur THE SALE YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!
