Show ( THE SAMPLER 8 jpirits Friday, Mar. 26, 1982 Management of recreation on and around the enlarged Strawberry Reservoir will be gradually transferred to the US Forest Service under a new agreement, it was announced by Cliff Barrett, Regional Director of the Bureau of Reclamation. Strawberry Reservoir The Forest Service will assume management of recreation at Soldier Creek Reservoir this coming summer, with the Strawberry Water Users retaining management at old Strawberry Reservoir until 1984. agreement reached Lands under the management agreement generally include the area south of US 40 that adjoins the Uinta National Forest and east from Forest land to private and Indian lands. Hie Bureau of Reclamation will retain primary jurisdiction over Soldier Creek Dam, the outlet from the - Strawberry Aqueduct, which brings water across the Uinta Mountains, and the inlet to the Strawberry Tun- nel, which carries water through the Wasatch Mountains to Utah Valley. Strawberry Resrevoir is a key water storage facility in the Central Utah Project since it will store all water intercepted and carried by the long Strawberry Aqueduct. Soldier Creek Dam, completed in the early 1970s, will eventually store enough water to inundate the old Strawberry Dam and to create an en37-mi- le larged Strawberry Reservoir four times in volume larger than the old lake. . Hie Forest Service will also administer Soldier Creek Recreation Site, now 85 percent complete, which will have space for 250 camping facilities and 100 vehicles for day use. Although the boat ramp is completed, the reservoir surface is not yet high enough to permit its use. Soldier Creek Campground will be opened to public use in 1983 or 1984. It is still an excellent individual organization, and Johnny Smith has more information. We established some groundrules last week to hopefully tighten up our meetings and to allow us to treat our guest speakers better. On those evenings when we have a guest speaker or program, no business will be conducted until after the program is over. We hope this will help us enjoy the programs more. Also, we learned the hard way with the snowmobile trip. From now on, reservations for trips and refunds will be handled ONLY .at the meetings of the club. This is highly necessary to maintain control and we ask your cooperation.
