I t April 1981 Dear Colonel Bay, Thank you for an informative and enlightening visit to Dugway Proving Ground. I am only sorry that my first visit there was so short. I especially appreciate the opportunity to meet and talk with so many fine people at the reception.. It is obvious why they are, in large part, responsible for the success Dugway has achieved over the years. Thank you also for the typically Dugway bookends. I dont believe Ive ever seen more beautiful geodes, and Becky and I will certainly treasure them. 'Please convey my appreciation to all who helped make my visit so successful and again accept my apology for not being able to attend the dinner you had so thoughtfully arranged for me. . f Warning: . When you first smoked a cigarette you werent planning on getting the habit; neither, were you anticipating those few drinks would lead to an alcohol problem. THERE ARE four stages of alcoholism: A. Early Symptom Stage: Progression from normal drinking to the point where no party is fun without a few drinks. In this stage drinking frequently becomes a crutch to bolster B. Problem Drinking Stage: A problem drinker kI self-confiden- JOHN R. GUTHRIE General, USA Alcohol could be dangerous to your enjoys the pampering effects of alcohol. His' drinking adversely affects his work performance. C. EARLY Alcoholic Stage: This is the obvious and confirmed heavy drinker. His work performance is poor and he spends much on alibis and trying to cover up his condition. The early stager says he can stop drinking if he wants to but in reality he cannot without help. More than half of these early stagers can lie rehabilitated with appropriate and vigorous . assistance. . D. Chronic Alocholic Stage: These individuals need urgent professional attention and in some instances they may have already suffered permanent physical and mental disability. Employees will probably have to lie separated or retired for disabiilty at this stage. However, some can be returned to useful lives with immediate and successful professional care. MAJOR effects that can lie noticed by perceptive individuals are: A. Excessive absenteeism, especially Mondays, Fridays and half days. B. Tardiness or leaving the job early and taking long coffee breaks. C. Hangovers on the job'. D. ALCOHOL on the breath or frequent use of breath purifiers. E. Mood changes, irritability, nervousness, tremor or forgetfulness. F. Incresed mistakes and lack of responsibility. C. DECREASED efficiency or lowered output. II. Untruthfulness about inconsequential matters. I. Avoidance of the supervisor. RECOGNIZING that there isnt any shame in having problem and everyone at one time or another needs help; its the smart person that does something about the situation. . .Life can be while its still a beautiful world.
