Show The Deseret Sampler, Friday, Feb. 23, 1973 Strictly television by Gary This is the second in a series of three addresses given at the 2nd Annual Dugway Prayer Breakfast in the HIIC Troop Mess on February 1. This second address is by Don Guillory (Catholic). AS MANY may realize, die word prayer" means literally to ask for something. But in general usage we usually take it to mean talking with and days Shows change times A. If that isnt bad enough, they all live in close proximeach other. Gautier pops up in the kitchen or jiving to ity room without invitation and is almost never thrown out. Meanwhile, Miss Talbot calls Hagman whenever something goes wrong for him and rubs it in. This is just an average situation comedy (SITCOM) with Hagman, Baker, and Gautier, but it suffers even more when Talbot shows up. One episode centered around playoff tickets to the NBA championships. It probably would have been better to center around Jerry West. Hagman and Talbot had season tickets before they divorced and the plot was about how and who got which tickets to the playoffs. This show appears to be destined for oblivion unless the producers make some changes. As a replacement it is adequate but not a blockbuster. The fret that it is on opposite All In The Family currently the number one show on television, is probably the main reason this show wont be back. The two stars are Booth and OMalley without a doubt. The show is one of the few done on video tape which gives it a live" look not unlike taped sports events. The show is based in Oakland, Cal. which is probably a first; fortunately you never have to look at views of Oakland for any length of time. Booth and O'Malley play two elderly people in their 60s. They are very good friends but short of being in love. One episode dealt with going to a motel and staying in the same room. Picture if you will two 60 year olds checking into a motel, unmarried, and one of them worried that the clerk will be suspicious. OMalley had won a weekend for two at a motel in Sausalito from his lodge. After a bit of persuasion. Booth agreed to go with him. Booth told her daughter she was going to Sausalito, but she didnt say what motel she was going to. O'Malley is all set to go to the room when they get there, but Booth wants to take a walk. Meanwhile her daughter and are looking for her and run into them at the motel. The motel clerk from when he was recognizes the daughter and at another motel It turns out that they went to a motel before they were married and the shoe was on the other foot. A warm show with good writing and acting, this has the best chance of the replacements to lie renewed for the fall. ? Now consider our relationship with God. God has given us all many blessings, just as Jones gave Smith a hand in repairing his home. Certainly we cannot offer God a meal Store Hours: r gether. The Dugway Pony Express Club, Toastmasters International, met Tuesday at the Officers Open Mess. Usually, speeches are presented and evaluated carefully by other members, but this meeting was designed for fun. Members were encouraged to heckle the speakers, and surprisingly no speaker lost his cool. TOASTMASTERS at Dugway meet twice monthly and dinner is served during the meeting. There are now more than 3,000 Toastmasters Clubs and more than a million persons have bene fitted from membership. Such a club provides its members a program to improve their abilities in communication and to develop their leadership and executive potential. There are no barriers to membership in Toastmasters International and anyone interested may call 3209 or 3295 or contact any current member. THE DUGWAY CLUB has been asked to host the Area Speech Contest. There are seven dubs in our area and there will be a representative speaker from each club. Anyone interested in attending this contest and dinner at the OOM on Apr. 7, is cordially invited. A social hour from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. will precede the contest and dinner. Tickets will be available in March. dinner. V- - This show premiered on the same night and immediately following Here We Go Again. With Shirley Booth as Grace and J. Mr. Smith realizes he can use some help, so he accepts Jones offer. And so there are many types of prayers which describe how we talk to God. For example, there are prayers of adoration, of petition, of thanksgiving, and so on. It is one of these types of prayer, giving thanks, which I believe is extremely important and which I would like to consider. I THOUGHT of a hypothetical situation which I think is analogous to our relation- ship with God. Consider two call them Mr. neighbors; Smith and Mr. Jones. Mr. Smith is out making repairs th Saturday nights. Julie Andrews moved from Wednesday to the Streets of San Francisco time slot on Saturday when Streets of S.F." went to Owen Marshalls" time period on Thursday. If you lost Owen Marshall along the way, he moved to Julies spot on Wednesdays. That was what ABC did. CBS did similar things which are almost as confusing. It is sufficient to say that Carol Burnett seems to be the only show that has gained a significant audience from where she used to be. Sonny and Cher moved from Friday to Wednesday and gained in the ratings as did Dick Van Dyke and Mannix" by moving up one hour on Sunday. But most of the other shows, time changes or not, wont lie around to see the new season.
