While the homers hurt the Reds considerably, manager Dave Bristol thought the turning point of the game came in the seventh when the Astros scored twice. Houston had a runner on third with one out and Doug Rader batting, when the Astros attempted a suicide squeeze. In the only other NL games played, the Pittsburgh Pirates from swept a doubleheader the Philadelphia Phillies, and Boston edged New York Washington defeated Detroit Chicago nipped Kansas City 2- in 10 innings, Baltimore whipped Cleveland California Oakland tripped and Seattle defeated Min1 in American nesota League games. Roberto Clemente was the hitting star for the Pirates in both games.
