Show DESERET JJ Friday, September 26, 1969 NEWS, ' ' COUNTY TRANSIT VOTE " CrOCEcdVi1 The c'nurt possibility of getting injunctions to (lose clown maverick" private operating outside 1ie law was suggested Thursday afternoon by Gov, Calvin Ramplon, The chief executive also asked for Defter communication"- between city and county .oficials and the State Liciior Control Commission regarding applications by clubs for state Jijuor licenses. sftampton made his proposes at a hurriedly-callemeet-- ' Ing with law enforcement . ; d - ye agencies, citv officials, state li(Uor officers and legal aides. He was disapparently turbed by reports in a Salt e iake newspaper that one club was continuing to operate despite the fact that its application for a state license had failed to gain approval by the city commission. All applications for state licenses must have the "consent of local officials before they can be approved, according to state law. Private clubs can continue pii-vat- B1 to operate under the old state charter until Nov, 14 or they can be closed down earlier by having their application for a new license formal 'y denied. The governor said that apparently there was a failure in the lines of communication between the city and State Liquor Control Commission regarding the Saif Lake private club in question. City officials told club owners they had denied the club's application for a state liquor license, but did not inform the Clubs Liquor Control Commission of this fact. The application was denied because the club had previously been brought to court for alleged illegal sale of liquor and that arrests have been made there twice in recent weeks. In the meantime, the club continues to operate under its old charter while its application before the state is still pending. Rampton ordered the state attorney general to contact all city and county clerks by mail and tell them to inform the State Liquor Control Commission whenever local consent is denied to a private club. With this knowledge of denial by the local political authority, the Liquor Commission would forthwith deny the license application rather than wait until the legal deadline of Nov. 14, he said.
