Show propagating flowers mrs lydia jane pierson Pi ereon a well known lady writer of pennsylvania writes thus to tho the farm journal I 1 I 1 have made a discovery in the flora kingdom which is worth disseminating it was accidental like a all I 1 other descove discoveries i ies I 1 gave a child some hyacinths to amuse himself merely the flower stalks carelessly I 1 broken ot off next morning mor as they lay withering on 1 my table I 1 pitied them as I 1 do all drooping things and taking them up thrust with my pen holder holes in ili the earth of a pot in which plants were growing and fixed the stalks in damp earth after a few hours they revived but a few days subsequent su ib sequent after the blossoms were withered I 1 drew them out oat to ahr throw ow them away and was surprised sur prized ed to find that they had formed bulbs at the bottom of the stenis stems since then I 1 have repeated the experiment always with s success they invariably wilt at first and comet sometimes imes do not straighten themselves up until the seventh or eighth day I 1 have not tried any other flower but intend this summer to make the experiment with tulips any lady may in this manner rear hyacinths from i a withered boquet I 1 I 1 |
