Show MUNICIPAL convention 1 ME tue rE PEOPLES OPLES TICKET MADE UP vor foil ELECTION the peoples municipal convention met at the foremans firemans Fi remans hall last evening im at 7 for the purpose se of putting in nomination for the city clenti election on to be held on monday february lith 1884 the following named officers one mayor five aldermen nine councilors councillors Counci lors one recorder one treasurer one marshal and one assessor and collector 10 0 o the convention was called to order by delegate john C cutler and a temporary organization was formed as follows george P G bywater chairman john N pike secretary jos joseph eph 11 II parry chaplain chas H crow sergeant at arms delegate joseph H dean moved the appointment by the chairman of a committee on credentials the motion was carried and the following were a appointed joseph H dean H P richards C B IF A mitchell and joseph F simmons the committee retired to examine the credentials denti als of the delegates to the convention ven tion and durin duning during their absence speeches were made ty by the chairman mr bywater and by N V jones C W symons george stringfellow and mrs E B ferguson the committee on credentials returned and reported on motion of delegate wallace the temporary organization was made permanent then followed prayer by the chaplain an and d roll call by the secretary delegate jones moved the appointment of a committee on nominations one from each of the five C city t precincts and two at large Delegate abl ABI Woolley moved an amendment that nominations be made from the body of the house mr jones moved another amendment to increase the committee on nominations to nine and have them appointed by the chair the last prevailed va ed and the following were named as that committee richards ards 4 N J heusser A jen jensen en WW newman 1 F simmons F A mitchell and J H committee retired on motion wotton of delegate dean a committee of five were appo tats tabs bward TAti to ta draft dran resolutions expressive of high regard to the dis franchised officers of the city and of disapproval respecting the fhe edmunds law an and the illegal rulings of the utah commissioners the following were appointed said committee joseph josepg 11 dean george stringfellow john C cutler win wm sanders sande r s and john A knight at this juncture the committee committee on nominations returned and pla pia placed ced eed owye before the convention the fa following 1 I 1 inz ing ticket for mayor james sharp for aldermen adam spiers isaac M waddell joseph 11 dean bean robert patrick george D for or council ors george stringfellow String jellow ellow orson H petitt john clark mark thos G webber albert IV davis joseph yoseph A jeanin 4 andrew N mcfarlane heber lieber J grant junius F wells for city recorder heber M wells for treasurer raull rami A for 31 marshal arshal wm win G phillips s for assessor and collector win wm W the above after some discussion mainly objections to the name of adam S piers as alderman of the first pre accepted and adopted by the convention the objections to mr spiers were made by delegates go goodman d and parry who f felt elt to censure the alderman for past leniency towards the liquor dealers who violated tue city ordinance the following were elected as the municipal central committee for the ensuing two years A 31 cannon L W blardy hardy andrew jenson james U C woods and john nicholson the following was then presented by the committee on resolutions etc mr chairman and delegates of municipal convention your committee on resolution beg leave to report the following WH WHEREAS EnEAS the honorable mayor and retiring officers of the municipal corporation po ration oration of salt lake city have been de barred the right to exercise their elective franchise in consequence of the illegal rulings of the utah commission and the provisions of the edmunds edmunda law from holding office thereby disabling this convention from re nominating them to office we respectfully tender to them in behalf of the citizens cit fzens of salt lake city corporation our sincere thanks for the efficient services rendered during their terms of office JOSEPH H DEAN dmn chairman i j the convention was adjourned sine ilde lile |
