His training in the classics was thorough and he was master of several languages. He went to Utah in company with his parents at the age of eighteen and was always a worker for the public welfare. , The main part of his' life was. de voted to the sugar industry of the - state of Utah. He gave to its pro- j motion nearly all of his time, his I ability and his money, and has been aptly called the father of the sugar j industry of this state.
