Show SMUDGING IN FROST SECTIONS Chamber of Commerce figures show that 60 per cent of the fruit orchards in Mesa county will be protected by smudge pots next spring. The Orchard Heater committee expects ex-pects to increase this icr cent to 80 within the next two weeks. This will be a remarkable average but when the incentive for protection is consiucrcd, it is to wonder why the percentage is not 100. The Grand Valley is preparing with oxtreme care , and scientific forethought fore-thought for the greatest battle against the Frost King ever recorded in any fruit district in the world's history. If Frost can be eliminated from the list of dangers to the fruit grow er the test next spring will prove it, should the freeze come on. Nothing should be left undone that should be done to make our chances of victory in the possible conflict certain. cer-tain. Every possible chance of defeat should be eliminated. The dependence depend-ence of the Grand Valley upon a successful suc-cessful fruit year next season is absolute. ab-solute. A' failure means RUIN to hundreds of ranchmen and business men. A failure next season would bring about a Loss of Confidence in the Valley's future. It would deprive us of our dearest possession, our Optimism. Op-timism. Our values would sink out of sight. It is for these reasons that the investigations in-vestigations which arc now being conducted con-ducted by the Orchard Heating committee com-mittee of the Chamber of Commerce arc of so great a significance. The work that this committee is doing is the most vitally important public endeavor now under way. n |
