KIM HAS achieved both in academic fields and in leadership challenges at Layton High School. She has been the studentbody publicity director this past year. She lettered in soccer and tennis. She was a member of the junior class committee. Some of the academic honors Kim has received include an appointment to the U.S. Air Lorce Academy, member of the National Honor Society, member of the math, chemistry and writing clubs. KIM IS the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris (E.W.) Tunley. Late registration is still being accepted for existing openings on the teams that are still in the process of being organized. If your boy is not registered, he will miss out on the many joys and the excitement of playing Little League ball. -- - LAYTON Jeff Steed, son of Janies and Joyce Steed, has been named a 1984 United Slates National Award w inner in the field of speech and drama. This award is a prestigious honor received by less than 10 percent of all American high school students. USAA winners are selected upon the recommendation to teachers, counselors and other school personnel. The criteria used is the student's academic performance, interest, aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and dependability. Jeff is a grandson of I.ai in and Mary Nalder of Lay ton and LaRue Steed Moore of Kas.ille, LET THE SEASON opening for both leagues will be next week. Major league play starts May 14. The Minor Leagues start May 15. The Layton Coaches Association is sponsoring a Layton Youth Lamily Day on Saturday, May 19 at Derks Field in Salt Lake City. The Gulls will be playing Hawaii. This activity is a fund raiser for the Coaches Association. Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to purchase coaching tools and aids. Game time is 4 p.m. ASSOCIATION President Dick Hansen, urges everyone in the community to support the volunteer coaching program and this activity. Tickets can be purchased through the Layton Recreation office or from the baseball coaches. fund-raisin- g J&J Government And History Winner Named The United States Achievement Academy announced that Kristi Clark has been named a 1984 United States National Award winner in history and government. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students. KRISTI Clark, who attends Central Davis Jr. High, 9th grade, was nominated for this national award by Mr. Anderson, history and social studies teacher at the school. Kristi Clark will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, published nationally. KRISTI IS the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Clark of 143 N. Talbot Dr., Layton.
