HALF PRICE STORE I 60 North Main, Layton 376-887- West 100 North, Kaysville, began to raise com on the 2 Vi acres beside her house as a project so they would have something to do together. That was about 14 years ago. Since that time, the com crop has become a summer business that occupies all of Carolyns time in August and keeps Mr. Marston busy about six months of the year. Mr. Marston plants, cultivates and waters the com, while Carolyn and her two children Kyle, 13 and DeVonya 16, pick the com and sell it all through August. 3 y 0 CAROLYN AND Kyle get up at 6 a m. and begin to pick the corn at 7a.m. It takes about two and a half hours to get enough com to sell. They pick enough to fill the back of a red and black truck that serves as their selling center. Carolyn sits on the porch of their home, which is west of the location where the truck is parked under the tree and reads the newspaper if there is time. Usually there is no time to sit since business is steady. She says that the hours between 3 and 6 p.m. are the busiest. Those are the hours when the Hill Air Force traffic swells the purchasers. THE BEST thing about selling corn, Carolyn says, is getting to know the people. Most of those who stop to buy were originally new faces, but as they continue to come back each year, the friendships grow.
