Among the new variety of onions shown were Spanish, mountain Danvers and Spanish Cochise. These were described as hardy growers, that gave a yield higher than the average. Dr. Leonard Pollard, who has conducted the hybrid onion experiments, served as narrator of the display. Dr. Pollard recommended that growers plant the San Joaquin on-o- n in August for an early harvest he following summer. With proper planting this harvest should be ready in June, he said. Proper There was an increased supply of livestock offered here this week and price trends ruled rather uneven. Cattle, as a rule, were well supported, with only cows and bulls losing some price ground. Hog prices broke wide open and the market level is more in line with more eastern points. The increase In cattle numbers included a larger share of grassers, cows and also bulls. Fed stock was again very scarce and quotations are ending up fully steady and a bit on the strong side. Cow prices eased each day so that quotations are closing from 50 cents to as cedent? Her answer is, It does. The big increase in the bull supply enabled the buying side to break prices about $2 per cwt. Calves and veal-er- s were steady early, but lost ground later to close weak to $1 lower. There is no change in quotations on stockers and feeders. The slim supply of high medium and good grade fed steers and yearlings here this week bulked from $28.50 to $31 with a small .lot reaching the top of $32. Medium grades bulked from $2G to $28 with plain grades selling at $25 and less. A few near good fed heifers sold from $28 to $29.50 while medium kinds ranged down to $25.50 with common kinds at $24.50 and under. Cow prices sold in a much wider range of prices for the better grades suffered the least in the decline. A few good beef cows sold from $23 to $24.50 while the bulk of the medium grade kinds went at $20 to $22.50. Canners and cutters sold from $17 to $19.50. A few good bulls sold up to $27.50 early in the week, but at the close the bulk sold under $20.50 with light kinds down to $24. Good and choice vealers sold from $30 to $33 while most calves went at $32 and Continuing she declares, There is but one primal cause.
