Show A12 fAROUN PlD AVI S CLIPPER TODAY THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1999 Davis Applied Technology Center names Kaysville Safety Committee sponsors contest achievement award winners for KAYSVILLE At the Davis Center's Applied Technology Opening Institute, members of the faculty and staff were recognized for their great achieements during the year Once agam, the DATC has seen significant growth and remains a premier technology training center DATC is recognized as providing excellent employees to many employers in the area. Before the Opening Institute, all faculty, staff, and administration members were gien the opportunity to nominate employees they felt had made a significant contnbution to the center dunng the past year. From those nominations, individuals were selected for special recognition for outstanding achievement awards. Awards were given to: Outstanding Faculty Member -- refrigeration, drafting and CAD technology, farm business management, f health science technology, heating, ventilation, & an conditioning (HVAC), industrial electronicsmam-tenancmachme tool technology, medical assistant, nursing (PN and e, RN), nursing assistant and home health aide, plumbing and welding technology The DATC also provides apprenticeship opportunities m a number of programs offered at the center 1998-9- 9 Davis Technology Applied Center is located m Kaysville and offers courses with open entry that are available both dunng day and evening hours. DATC also works closely with industry and local businesses in designing programs to meet their specific needs. Rookie of the Tear - Kimberly Ziebarth, information technology instructor In keeping with tradition, traveling plaques were awarded m the following areas' Individual Quality Awards Cathy Tumbow, dental assisting - The Kaysville KAYSVILLE City Safety Committee will sponsor its annual poster contest from Feb. 3,2000. Students at elementary schools in the city are invited to design posters promoting crosswalk safety Spring is a good tune to remind the citizens of the need for constant awareness for crosswalk safety Mam Street in Kaysville has been a very dangerous crossing area for both citizens and visitors. The goal of the contest is to promote safety awareness for both pedestrians and drivers. The committee would like teachers and parents to take the time to talk to their students about this important issue. The city police department will conduct a citywide awareness week in conjunction with this contest. . Regulations: Posters cannot be larger than 18 x 12 They must have on the back of their poster the first and last name, phone, school, grade and teachers. Posters will be judged on the meaning and content of the poster, neatness and colonng. cimfTrfTfirTTfro Each school will submit five winners for K-- 3 and five winners for fourth-grad- e through sixth. The City Safety Committee will judge the posters on March 8. Winning posters 7 will be displayed March at Bowmans in Kaysville. Winners will also be invited to and recognized by the mayor and city council dunng a city council meetmg. All prizes will be awarded after March 8. Two new awards were presented for the first time this year they were: Customer Service - shared by two teams. Facility Services and Information Technology' Teams. Team Work - Health Science Technology Community Award will be awarded for the first time next year. In addition to these awards, special recognition was . given to those employ ees with extended y ears of service to the DATC and the students. Five Year Awards - Jeff Strahan, Kevin Ross 10 Year Awards - Kevin Cummings, DeLon Jensen, A1 Heplei; Verlene Smith. 15 Tbar Awards - Gary Baldwin, John Keck. Les James. 20 Year Awards - Jay Goodfellow, Sharon Steed, Hans Flink, Leon Pulley. Davis Applied Technology Center serves Davis County and surrounding areas with excellent training courses in industrial and technical programs. These programs consist of courses m auto collision repair and refimshing, automotive technology, business technology. clinical technology, computer technology, culinary arts, dental assisting, diesel technology and transport Ham radio operators to sponsor on-air-jambo- ree for scouts Ham radio operators m Davis and Morgan Counties will sponsor a worldwide Scouting event Oct 6 at the city park m Hooper Jamboree-on-the-A- ir is an annual event for Scouts from all nations to meet on the air, and to increase their knowledge of amateur radio and its place m the world of telecommunications. Scouts from all over Utah will be camping overnight, while radio oper15-1- ators from the Davis County Amateur Radio Club will set up dozens of radio stations for the event. Instruction in radio and electronics will be offered, leading to a scout merit badge. The general public is invited to observe the event on Saturday m order to learn more about, this increasingly popular hobby s.w Amateur radio operators form a network for emergency communications around the country. State and local governments, as well as the LDS Church, rely on this backup network in the event of an emergency Ham radio offers great flexibility-icommunications during times of disaster, when telephone systems often fail.
