If you assume that fish act pretty much the same Wherever you shallow areas that are near One effective steep drop-off- s. way to catch them is to troll a Rapala or other diving bait over, the shallows, The hungry fish are often willing to bite, Another deadly method is to cast H quarter ounce or eighth ounce lead head jig tipped with a plastic tail. Dave anchors his boat so that he can cast out and walk his jig down a drop-of- f. He lets the jig come to rest on the bottom then slowly picks it up to begin working it. He cautions that you need to carefully watch your line. Many times the fish will strike just as you pick up your rod for the first jigging motion, and you need to be ready to set the hook. Choice of bait is important. Dave has found that Berkley Power Tails and Power Norms seem to out produce other plastic baits when fished with a lead head jig. He favors jointed Rapala lures for trolling in the shallows. He has also had good success diving casting crankbaits and along the edges of drop-off- s. Perhaps Dave and will 1 work out a fishing trip the next time my travels take me to the north. But even though we didnt go fishing. I want to try some of Dave techniques on Utahs walleye. Deer Creek has and numerplenty of drop-ofous walleye that are rarely disturbed by fishermen. I have a: tackle box full of lead head jigs and Berkley Power Tails, and I think it is time to give the walleye a try. fs Basketball scoring clinic scheduled Bountiful City Recreation in conjunction with Converse is holding a special Basketball Scoring Clinic during the UEA Weekend, Oct. 5, 6, 7.
