Show To Be Honored On 85th Date ' FLORENCE F. MERCER The family of Florence F. Mercer are honoring her on her 85th birthday at an open house on June 22, 1975 from 2-6 p.m. at her home, 165 East Center St., Bountiful. All friends and relatives are invited in-vited to call. SHE WAS born in Loa, I Wayne County, Utah on June 14, 1890, the 9th child of ' George J. and Sarah Snow Forsyth. In 1902 she was 12 f years old, the family moved ' to Magrath, Alberta, Canada I' to establish a home. ! She went to normal school at Calgary, Alberta and started teaching in Magrath i when she was 18 years old. ! ON DECEMBER 22, 1909 I she was married to Ammon f. Julian Mercer in the Salt Lake Temple. They returned to Magrath and built a home there where they began rearing rear-ing a family. Ammon served in the 1st world war from April, 1916 until the war ended in 1918. At that time they had three children and Florence worked on many war projects in the community. THEY MOVED to Bountiful in December, 1922, where they continued raising their family of seven children, who are: Mrs. Thomas F. (Ma-xine) (Ma-xine) White, Ogden; Mrs. Thomas C. (Luana) Sorensen, Phoenix, Ariz. Kay L., Provo; Marne L., Los Gatos, Calif.; Richard J., Lakewood, Calif.; Edward A., North Highlands, Calif.; and Gene S., Springfield, Va. She has 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. MRS. MERCER has been active in church work all her life; was Literary teacher in the Relief Society for 32 years and a block teacher for 50 years. She was Mother of the Year for Davis County in 1955. She served as President of Stoker School PTA and Bountiful Jr. High PTA, has been president of the Jessamine Literary Club and president of Sessions Ses-sions Camp, Daughter of Pioneers. She maintains a keen interest in civic affairs. HER HUSBAND died September Sep-tember 21, 1969, just three months before the couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The family requests no gifts. |
