Adam made it to the stale Cultural, political, current events and straight geography questions are asked at the Bee All the participants are asked a question, and they must write down the correct response Once they have missed two questions, they are eliminated Adam his won schools Geography Bee in November Then he had to take a test They took the BRADY YOUNG ,1 -- O c ft semi-fina- iff iiHijUKfiwriBiri itiitoiwim ls GLOBETROTTER: Adam Stoddard receives a plaque from SDJH Principal Karen Bertelsen as the first place winner in the state's Geography Bee top two hundred scores in the state to compete in the State Geography Bee Adam found out in March that he had qualified to go to state so he did not have much time to prepare, but he said that he had prepared a lot before he was notified As the state champion, The National Geographic Society sponsors him and his history teacher, David Magleby to go to Washington, D C to compete Each state champion, along w ith a representative from each territory and the Department of Defense, will compete in the nation al competition Adams parents are also going with him. Adam said that he has always had an interest in geography It started with a fascination of maps when he was young If he could go anywhere in the world he would like to see the Middle East because he has always liked ancient Egypt and Biblical things but he would like to go almost everywhere that he has read about Surprisingly, science is Adam's favonte subject Reading, collecting coins, watching cartoons and drawing are some of Adams other hobbies. Here are a few important things to remember: Dont trim trees near power lines. Watch for overhead power lines when moving irrigation pipe or operating heavy equipment. Assume all downed power lines are energized and stay away from them. Dont climb trees near power lines. Stay away from substations or anything marked Danger: High Voltage. Never install rooftop antennas or satellite dishes near overhead power lines. For kids to enter, all they have to do is draw a picture with an electnc safety message and send it to Utah Power. They can create their own or pick one of the topics at left. All contestants will receive a prize and 25 winners will receive a $100 savings bond.
