Lane Bountiful, was Beattie, the unanimous pick of GOP Senate caucus members Wednesday to succeed Sen. Arnold Christensen as Utah Senate president. is Christensen, 15 June as president resigning and as senator July 1 to serve as a mission president in North Carolina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Christensen, who has served as president for 10 years, announced his resignation at the conclusion of the last legislative session. In a private vote conducted Wednesday, the first mid-terleadership elections in recent memory, Beattie was elected president by acclamation. He was not opposed in his bid for the post. It was a great but very humbling experience, said Beattie, who has served as Senate majority leader for the past 1 8 months after two years of service as majority whip. As president, Beattie will be responsible for running and coordinating all the affairs of the Senate. In addition, the post puts him third in line for succession to the governors office. Provo Sen. Craig Peterson was selected to succeed Beattie as majority leader, having defeated Logan Sen. Lyle Hillyard for the post. Sen. After years of wrestling with watering restrictions questions, the council voted recently to end the debate and adopt permanent watering restrictions. In the past the watering restriction policy was adopted each year and expired on the Oct. 15 deadline. The new restrictions will be permanent for each year unless altered due to heavy precipitation or because of extreme should be nearly full for summer use. This way it will not have to be brought back to you each spring, City Attorney Rusty Mahan said. The same hours will apply all over town even if you are not on Weber Basin water. Water users above Bountiful Boulevard and other foothill areas of Bountiful only have culinary sources for outside use and are not serviced with irrigation water from Bountiful Water Subconservancy District and South Davis Water District through the Weber Basin Water District.
