As Mlsa Lehman, who resides at 2041 Madison avenue, and la employed at the Telephone office, was proceeding home on Saturday evening she waa accosted by Cody at the corner of Washstreet The ington and Twenty-fourt- h lady paid no attention to his advances, but while she was proceeding up Twenty-secon- d street and between Adams and Jefferson, Cody, who had got ahead of her and secreted himself In one of the vacant lots, sprang out behind and aelsed her round the waist. The lady cried for help, but he Immediately placed one of hla hands over her mouth to atlfle her cries. Mlsa Lehman waa carrying several parcels and a violin, and these handicapped her in the struggle with her assailant Dropping these she struggled free, hut Cody made a second attack upon her and had nearly borne her to the ground when her screams attracted the attention of Peter Baird who was coming to town. At the approach of Baird her assailant escaped. Mr. Baird accompanied Mias Lehman home, but before they reached her residence she noticed Cody lurking In a vacant lot In the vicinity of her home, and informed her escort of the fact Baird waa anxious to at once capture the man, hut Mlsa Lehman dissuaded him. When they reached home and recited the fact of the assault that had been made upon her, the police were at once Chief Browning, Detective notified. Pender and Captain Brown, after a consultation, arrived at the conclusion thnt they knew the man who had committed the assault They immediately residence on proceeded to Cody's Twenty-firstreet between Madison avenues. and Monroe They found Cody in bed and placed him under arrest There was considerable domestic disturbance In the process, but when this was overcome and Cody waa taken before Mias Lehman she at once identified him as her assailant No complaint has yet been filed against Cody. Price, who conducted himself In a disgraceful manner on a street car yesterday. FUNERAL OF C. E. DUFER. Funeral services over the remains of the late Charles E. Dufer were con ducted this afternoon at the residence street under the Imon Twenty-fift- h mediate auspices of Weber lodge No. 6 A. F. and A. M. Rev. E. I. Goshen conducted the service. There whs a large attendance of members of the Masonic fraternity and a large representation was also present from the Order of Railroad Conductors and other organisations of which the deceased was member. There were many floral tributes from friends and relatives and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large body of mourn era. Interment took place at Mountain View cemetery. The funeral arrange ments were conducted by A. F. Richey. was rendered against the defendant for damages In the sum of 64.000, a motion has been filed for a new trial on the grounds of excessive damages insufficient evidence and errors of law. The hearing Is set for January 5th. A judgment by default was entered Saturday In the case of W. H. The dynamite bombs, each containing a pound of explosive, were found In a pile of bricks on West Forty-thir- d street today. Contractors believe the bombs were placed by members of the s' union who are seeking to revenge the Imprisonment of Sam Parka. ll The bricks were for use on the conduit building. One of this firms buildings waa dynamited last night. The body of the dead man found Saturday morning on Fremont Island, in t Great Salt lake, by employees of the Southern Pacific company was brought In last evening by Alma Larkin and Chris Merrick, who had been sent out by Sheriff Bailey to take charge of the remains. They report that they were nicely treated and every assistance possible waa renedered them. They took a Southern , Pacific launch, went to the island and brought the body to the mainland. When found the body bore the appearance of having been In the water three or four weeks. It waa that of a young man apparently about twenty-on- e years of age, well dressed, and in the pockets were found some letters and papers which were taken out and sent to Sheriff Bailey. Messrs. Larkin and Merrick arrived with the corpse about 6 oclock last evening. At the time of going to press the letters and papers said to have been found on the drowned man and sent to Sheriff Bailey had not yet been received. A telegram was sent endeavoring to trace them up. The only additional Information obtainable Is that the body was found at camp 23, on Fremont island, on Wednesday, hut was not reported here until Saturday. From the letters found on hla person he seems to have had a love affair with a young lady at Provo. It la an action for damage done to the road through Ogden canyon by the driving of 25,000 head of sheep through it by the defendant.
