LIBERTY COUPLE WHAT UTAHNS SHOULD DO WITH THEIR GRAPES. Mens Mens Mens Mens Mens Horticultural Board President Makes Important Proposal Which Will Bring Largs Revenue. Grape growing and raisin making in southern Utah should in the near future become one of the most profitable industries In the state, according to the bulletin just Issued by President Thomas Judd of the state board of horticulture. Mr. Judd has for the past two years been conducting prac tical experiments In this line at the experiment farm. The results of his labors are fully set forth In bulletin No. 1, which has just been Issued, and the possibilities of this Industry explained to the public. Grape raising in Dixie' has been carried on for years on a small scale, but no eff ort was made to realise any cash returns from the product. Owing to the great distance to the nearest railroad lt was impossible to ship the grapes to a market so they were made Into wine. The wine was of little commercial value and most of lt was noesumed by the makers and no attempt made to export 1L By making the grapes Into raisins it Is possible to make grape raising a profitable industry. From the tests made at the experiment farm It has been shown that as high as $300 profits can be realized from an acre of ground that can be bought at present for $50 or $60. The cuts or sprouts can le obtained from the experiment farm free of cost and in three years time will tie bearing grapes. One very Important featui-- in favor of this industry la the fact that grapes can be irrigated with from to llie amount of water required by agricultural products. The soil in the Dixie country is volcanic scoria, the same as the soil of the best region of Italy and the grapes grown In the former place have as fine flavor as those In the country across the sea. Some of the grapes raised In southern Utah were sent to the government chemist at Washington, D. C., and an analysis proved that they contain more saccharine matter than the grapes of California. By drying the grapes and making raisins lt is possible to ship them some distance to a market for sale. They can be transported to the railroad by wagon, without damage and at a nominal cost. It is said that $200 worth of raisins can be hauled In one wagon e 1 or nd -- gain-strengt- A Mens $2.00 Pants Mens $2.50 Pants Mens $3.00 Pants Mens $4.00 Pants Mens $5.00 Pants $12.00 $12.80 $16.00 GD the Railroad Men Halm Is made by the Southern company that It will have a miles an hour roadlied between and Reno.
