The Jazz will open regular season play at home against Portland on Friday night October 10. 1 t The Jazz will play 10 Friday night and nine Saturday evening contests during the upcoming season. Utah will play seven times on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and four times on Monday and Wednesday nights. The Jazz once again this season did not schedule any Sunday home games. We are extremely pleased with our schedule this year. The Salt Palace management worked very hard in getting us the good playing dates that we needed," said General Manager Frank Layden. Last year we were at a disadvantage as far as getting the playing dates we wanted because we got to Salt Lake City so late as the result of the teams move from New Orleans to Utah," Layden added. Utah Jazz home games will start at 7:30 p.m. again this season, with the exception of five Thursday night games which are slated to begin at 8:30 p.m. because the Jazz are scheduled to play on National Cable Television on those nights. The Jazz are planning special Family Night promotions for all Monday night games. Utahs road schedule as well as the entire NBA schedule is expected to be released the week of July 28. Such losses are natures way of checking the size of bighorn sheep populations. DWR is desirous of transplanting surplus parent stock into historically known bighorn areas in an effort to reestablish the species. Many of these areas have been void of bighorn since the early part of the century. To date, some 14 release areas have been identified. However, DWR has become increasingly frustrated due to financial constraints and escalating helicopter rental rates which have combined to curtail DWRs transplanting program to a snails pace. Because of the remoteness of bighorn sheep habitat and ruggedness of topography, the helicopter' is an essential tool in locating, capturing, transporting and releasing bighorns. The recent contributions of Shirkar-SafaClub International and recent approval of a grant from the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep will aid the cause. But significantly more finds are needed to complete the reestablishment process as soon as possible to take advantage of the currently high bighorn sheep populations. A proposal to finance bighorn sheep capturing and transplanting was supported by the public at a recent public Board of Big Game Control ri Whos the most outstanding athlete? . .ANSWER: The doctors relieved me of my appendix, Tuesday night. I detected stomach pains Monday, and entered the hospital on Tuesday. Its a good thing they caught it when they did, because gangrene had set in. I should be home this week. Q. Harry, this weeks question came from my colleague at Sun Publishing. Keith Duncan wants you to name the most outstanding athlete to come out of our midst. A. Boy, thats a big order. There have been some great athletes in every field. We could talk about Arnie Ferrin in basketball. He was from Ogden High School. Or how bout Kenny Hubbard of Ben Lomond? He is presently playing baseball for the Atlantic Hawks. Or Paul Tippetts of Weber? He played a lot of football at Utah State. What about Scotty Hoffman of Bonneville? He just missed making the U.S. Olympic Ski Team. Ed Eyestone and Jeff Swanger were great track stars for the Lakers. Jeff finished in the top five U.S. decathalon runners while at Weber State last year and Eyestone has been doing great at Brigham Young University. Look at Red Waite and his accomplishments at Weber and Utah State in basketball, or how about Archie Skeen, who played probaseball. He was another good one at Weber. Gary Strong, who now coaches at Sand Ridge, was a basketball star at Bonneville and Weber State. Jim McMahon and Fred Fernandes carved their names in the record HARRY BURCHELL AND BLISS FULLMER o Riverdale Stake ends play-off- s Lot'sAskHarry By Bliss Fullmer QUESTION: Harry, what are you doing at St. Benedicts Hospital? it will likely be in September or October. Dr. Brady expressed pleasure at being selected for the position and said it offers a number of challenges, among them the perennial ones of budgeting, better scheduling and compliance fully with NCAA standards. Ogden should be a good place geographically from which to administer affairs of the sprawling Big Sky Conference, which includes schools from Montana on the north to Arizona on the south and Nevada-Renon the west, he said. Jim is a big reason why Brigham Young University is rated number thirteen in the first national football poll, and Fred is being considered for a starting roll at Utah State, this fall. Roy also had a super star, named Doug Friedli, who is still breaking records in track now at Weber State. Jim Redd, of Ogden High School, has been at Brigham a Cougar Young University Rulon Jones, played his football at Weber, and Utah choice of State. He was a first-roun- d the Denver Broncos. Some may say, Are you trying to price hunting out of the common mans reach or, by bidding, you are going to eliminate my chances of drawing a permit?" No. In the first place, we are able to keep the price of the regular bighorn sheep permit at its present level by using this new procedure to pay for the total costs associated with reestablishing new bighorn populations. Secondly, the state is not offering additional bighorn permits. Actually, last year there were two nonresident permits authorized on the regular hunt; this year, there is but one.
